Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

As I am a native Japanese speaking teacher, it makes me easier to teach my language.I have been tutoring some students at Oxnard College, Oxnard (9/1992-5/2011), Ventura College, Community Ed. Dept. (9/1998-5/2011), and Private School, Japanese Language School at Oxnard, CAAlso at Monterey Institute of International Studies, Monterey, CA (3/1981-6/1986), San Francisco Community College (2/1975-6/1976), I had the private students who needed to take the Tutoring service from me.

I plan on going into the education field after graduating from UCSB. I love working with kids of all ages and helping them learn and understand new concepts. After years of babysitting and working as a coach for kids in third and fourth grade I realized how fulfilling working with kids can be. Helping people in general is something that I greatly enjoy and I believe that makes tutoring a great fit for my personality.

I love to be able to foster growth in others. My ultimate goal is to be a psychology professor at an undergraduate institution, where I would be able to nurture minds to maximize their potential. I was always a good student, graduating college with a 3.7 gpa. I am easy to connect with and children and adolescents tend to like me (for whatever reason). Also, I have held many jobs from which I can provide references to show that I am reliable. In fact, my personality is that which tends to make me early to everything out of fear of being late, and therefore rude. I believe that I would make a good tutor based on my ability to connect with students and my desire for them to improve. I value the nature of one-on-one interaction for learning, something I was able to receive from my professors at Westmont College.

Besides tutoring both privately and through the AHACV, I also have babysitting experience which has made me more comfortable with children and vice versa. I have over 8 years of babysitting experience and this has only served to further advance my tutoring abilities while caring for various children at the same time.I am very comfortable in the subjects that I listed above and especially Spanish because I am bilingual. As a native Spanish speaker, I know not only the fundamentals of it, but beyond that since I am minoring in Spanish at California Lutheran University. Spanish is a language that I truly enjoy speaking and teaching because it is a romantic language.I am very responsible, respectful, professional, punctual, organized, and detail oriented with everything that I do; and I know that this would not be the exception. With every job that I do, I give it my all because I am committed to helping others in every way that I possibly can and learning to become a better person myself.I also references that may be contacted if so desired.

I am very adaptive to students' learning styles and pace. I believe I would be a great tutor because I have a rich sense of compassion and understanding, as well as accepting students' individual work flows. I can relate to different difficulties that he/she might be facing and develop and solution to help them overcome the obstacles that are necessary for success.I have experience as a teacher's assistant in many different subjects and grades from middle school through college. I have organized many study groups and assisted many of my peers with their studies. I have volunteered for a few after school programs as well, from elementary school level and up.

I see tutoring as an invaluable tool to our communities education system, thus creating the foundation for a successful tomorrow. My passion for education stems from my successful coaching experiences in Taekwondo, where I have taught youth and adults principles of martial arts including: discipline, determination, and perseverance. My 18 years in martial arts have added to my constant development of those characteristics in myself as well. Additionally, I have been an advocate for continuing education for my clients in my current position as an Continuing Care Coordinator at a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center and have worked with clients to create completed applications for secondary education. With that said, I believe my best quality that I can bring to a students tutoring experience is my passion to give back to the community by spreading knowledge.

I am a person who can be counted on to follow through on my commitments, and am well-organized to facilitate this goal. I am very patient and easy-going, but I also have the ability to keep others on task and focused. I am good at breaking down complex concepts into their more easily-understood components, and with using simple language and analogies to ensure that ideas are fully understood and absorbed. Overall, I can be relied on to show up on time and help a student hammer down the essentials as painlessly as possible.I have extensive experience working with a range of different ages, whom I help to stay focused by pointing out the relevancy of, and connections to, the material.

I think I would be an excellent tutor for many reasons. Mainly, I really value education. I never want to stop learning in life, and think it is one of the most important elements that make us human. I also really love working with children, as I have a lot of experience in the field, and love interacting with people. Helping others reach goals brings me a lot of satisfaction. Lastly, I am a reliable person in nature, I value hard work, being punctual and keeping my word. Any of my prior employers can attest to this fact and it is something I really pride myself in.I have been involved in childcare for the past 8 years. The majority of my tutoring experience has been working with elementary aged children, via helping with homework. Though it was not official "tutoring", many times I helped the children I was working with to develop skills aimed at completing assignments and staying on track.
