Tutoring would be an absolutely perfect fit for me. Not only am I intelligent, graduating from one of the most demanding schools in the country with a 3.8 GPA, but I also have an insatiable love for learning and helping others to learn as well. To illustrate: in college, come finals week, classmates would often come to me for help reviewing the semester's workload, no easy task by any means! Nevertheless, these were always one of my favorite times, and I found it extremely rewarding to help others come to a deeper and more unified understanding of the coursework as I myself did the same in the process. I find it very fulfilling to bring others to a better grasp of things, and hope that the enthusiasm I express may kindle a similar love of learning in those I assist.I am extremely reliable, with a strong work ethic. I live in Ojai, not far from those who would require my tutoring. I am in excellent health, own a dependable vehicle, and have few commitments. As a 2007 graduate of California State University, Northridge, I have student teaching experience on the second and third grade levels, in both suburban and urban school districts. I have full time teaching experience on the first and third grade levels, and have substitute taught all grade levels. The majority of my field work occurred within the La Canada Unified School District. Working with La Canada's demanding curriculum and expert teachers has bestowed tools and knowledge that I would have been unable to acquire elsewhere. You will find my strengths and qualifications located in my resume.Shortly following college graduation, I took a position as a substitute teacher in La Canada Unified School District until I was offered a permanent position with Los Angeles Unified School District. While teaching third grade at J.B. Monlux Elementary School in North Hollywood, I was able to fine tune my ELD strategies and curriculum. Roughly two years into teaching at Monlux, I was released due to state budget cuts. Unable to secure another full time teaching position, I took the initiative to start my own business. I opened a fitness studio in Eagle Rock, California. While running the business, I returned to substitute teaching with La Canada Unified School District to remain up to par with the educational system and curriculum.After growing my business for a year, I decided to sell it. I was eager to actively pursue another teaching assignment to continue my passion for educating and nurturing children. As an Animal Science student, I feel as though the classes I take have little to no tutors who can help students along the way. As a 5th year student, I have taken a wide range of courses from child psychology, sheep management, to a class devoted to how the immune system works, and how it varies from animal to animal. As previously stated, I have never been an actual tutor, but according to friends I have tutored, I explain things a little different from how a professor does, but put into simpler terms. I have had a passion for teaching and part of teaching is being able to convey a subject to students and having them understand. When friends ask me to help them undersand something or explain a section to them, I do so in a pace convenient to them and conducive to learning and understanding. I am a reliable person because I take my job seriously. As of now, I hold 2 part-time jobs and go to school full time. During this time, I have received a GPA no lower than 3.1, never showed up late to my shifts or missed them for whatever reason.

I would love to be a tutor for grade potential because I love teaching, communicating, and working with students. Education has always been a passion of mine and is a possible career path for me. I have a great amount of experience working with students ranging from elementary to high school and know how to get along with various personalities. I am a friendly, relatable people person who like to make learning fun. Teaching appeals to me because I love it when I see a student have a "lightbulb moment" when they finally come to understand a concept.

I have a multiple subject teaching credential. So I would feel very comfortable tutoring any subject that is under 6th grade. I also feel that I have the skills necessary to not only give the information, but to help the students to understand and learn the material. I have been taught a wide variety of strategies to help students retain information. I am a special education teacher, so in addition to working with the general education population, I also am at home with students who have special needs. I feel that I am a very reliable person. I worked for a behavioral therapy company that did in-home sessions. I had excellent punctuality and attendance. I have also been working for school districts for the past few years and have had no trouble with tardiness or excessive sick calls.

I love to learn and to get others passionate about learning. I think I make being a nerd look cool (because being a nerd IS cool). I had some students in my chem 210 FAL sessions that at first had no interest in chemistry, but by the end of the semester they were coming to my sessions with crazy nerdy things they bought... for example a periodic table of elements dinner table placemat. They would send me nerdy pictures from the internet... for example a cat that had chewed its way out of a cardboard box with the caption "Suck it Schrodinger! I survived!" They would come in and tell me chemistry jokes... for example "Q:What do you call a tooth in a glass of water? A: A one molar solution." I am also good at finding different ways of explaining things. So if I explain something and it doesn't click or make sense to the student I am good at figuring out a new way of putting it that may make more sense. I am also good at understanding what a student is saying if they don't have a handle on the proper terminology yet, but they still understand the concepts. I can then help them with puting what they are saying into the proper terminology.
