I am passionate about reading, writing, and proper use of the English language. I also enjoy helping people. Tutoring combines both of those passions by giving me an opportunity to improve student's English skills.Furthermore, I am punctual, trustworthy, and flexible to individual's needs.

I am an extremely dedicated teacher and I strive to see the best in all of my students. I want each student I work with to achieve beyond their own expectations and work very hard to show them what they are capable of. I also spent time researching new and different techniques to help each student I work with understand difficult or challenging material.I have tutor students struggling in reading at schools I have previously taught at in an hour long after school session. I have also worked with students who needed additional assistance on math skills prior to the end of the year exam. Through a small city school I have also done an at home school session where the student was not in school for a time frame and we would meet at the local library and we would go over the curriculum for the week so that when the student returned to school they would not be behind

I believe I make a great tutor due to the fact that I have lots of experience working and teaching children at the church that I volunteer at. During evening services we have homework sessions in where we help students with whatever they may need help in, I myself specializing in language and literature. I feel I am effective due to the fact that I have lots of patience and understanding when it comes to helping a student in certain subjects because I myself was in the same position when I was in high school. I try to make it as fun as possible and find easy ways for them to understand and learn to help them in school. I am always punctual to any and every event and place that I am needed to, always trying to show up 15 minutes to half an hour early, as well as always showing up looking presentable because to me presentation is key.

I am intimately knowledgeable in the core concepts behind every subject for which I am applying. In addition, I have experience tutoring in both a 1 on 1 and group setting. I am able to tailor my lesson plans and explanations to each individual, to make sure they get the most out of it they can. Furthermore, I am passionate about spreading knowledge and getting people excited about STEM fields.

I tutored a young boy of about 12 years of age when I was in high school for algebra and we made a lot of progress in his knowledge and abilities. I have also tutored my peers for as long as I can remember especially since the best way to learn is by teaching. This has given me a lot of the skills necessary to be able to recognize when a student is struggling to understand one explanation and finding another way to explain how to do the problem in a way that they can understand. I am also a very patient and easy-going person which is a very important quality when it comes to tutoring as it can take time to learn complicated subjects and the students will often get frustrated with themselves so it is helpful to have a calm figure letting them know they can do it. My mother was a special ED teacher when I was in middle school and thus learned a lot of techniques for explaining things in a different manner. She taught a lot of those techniques to me which has made me a better tutor over the years.

I have tutored two students in math, one during my time as a T.A. in my senior year of high school (2009-2010) and the other as a paid hourly tutor during my time as an undergraduate at Point Loma Nazarene. My private-tutored student, Sam, went from being very apprehensive towards math to feeling competent and even tutoring his classmates. I have taught tennis to young children for about three years at University City Racquet Club, building strong rapport and tailoring instruction to their individual playing levels. I have also done extensive coursework in children's education, designing assessments, etc. I work as a tutor currently at Cambridge Learning Centers and I have learned to motivate students to work, provide enough assistance to help them while not doing work for them and to manage a group of up to 5 or 6 students. I am easygoing but firm with my intentions to make productive use of work time.

I would be an excellent tutor for several reasons. Firstly, I love school, and I have always maintained a top level of academic achievement, gaining admissions to competitive middle schools, high schools, and colleges. I am very personable, approachable, and articulate. I have years of experience teaching dance to students ages 4-18, so I am well versed in building meaningful relationships in an instructive role. In high school, I was hired to edit papers and guide my peers through the writing process. I am taking at least one semester off from school for financial reasons, so I am available to tutor in the San Diego area as it is my hometown! I am incredibly punctual, responsible, helpful, and creative, all of which I think are important qualities for a tutor.

I believe I am a great tutor because I am very patient and an attentive learner. I haven’t been an employed tutor but along with writing my own papers during my years in college, I have helped edit papers of those of my peers. I also enjoy helping kids out that are in need of help with school work as I’ve always helped my own family members.
