As a committed individual to my future and the present moment, I assure that all who are involved with Grade Potential, both fellow colleagues and prospective students of mine, will feel the passion and determination I have for language. Language is a part of everyone's life from day one. Not only are we composed of body language, but we are fortunate enough as a species to have created a verbal language that breaks down barriers of communication or even, at times, confirms that we are more humanly similar than perhaps we may have realized before sharing a common thought with a stranger that stands beside you. Language is beautiful and resourceful and I am fortunate enough to have been given a multitude of opportunities to not only communicate in one language, but two. My experience and academic rigor obtained in Spanish not only could bring a sense of confidence to the table when a student is lacking certainty in the subject during our session, however, also when they are at their desks in a classroom setting. Whether a student learns how to speak up in front of the class to ask a question, actively participate more, or finish their exam according to the teacher's expectations, I find that all are necessary tools to create an above average student. I am willing to tutor dynamically and acclimate my skills in the Language that will best aide to their self-reliance. Instilling confidence in a manner that is considered fun and constructive to the student is my highest goal. I understand the struggles of learning a second language and highly remember the triumphs that ever so gently encouraged me to continue the process of becoming a bilingual. I maintain professionalism in Spanish through constant practice in my work space, attending Spanish classes throughout most of the year, and constant conservation of friendships made while abroad.

As a human services professional who has been working in the field for 8+ years, I possess a high level of professional rapport, maturity, and reliability; in addition to advanced skills in the area of adult learning and behavioral management. These skills will greatly enhance my ability to convey subject matter effectively, as I will be able to assess each student's learning style and adapt teaching methods effectively, while also helping students develop study and behavioral strategies to strengthen overall learning and long-term educational success. My educational background prior to counseling was in Child/Adolescent Development which emphasized teaching/education courses, providing added skill/competency working with teens/young adults in an educational role. I am highly motivated to develop my skills as a tutor, since my long-term career goals include teaching/career guidance at the college level. This motivation will make me an asset to your team, and an effective tutor for students. Equally important, my education and professional work have been heavily focused on writing and critical thinking skills, which makes me fully capable of tutoring in the area of English composition, essay/research writing, and analysis of literature. These were areas of strength for me as a high school and college student, and in general I possess superior study and learning skills that I can effectively pass on to my students.

I believe I make a great tutor because I am patient, able to explain information in multiple ways, and am motivated to help people succeed. I have tutored my younger brother for 13 years and occasionally still assist him with studying and proof-reading his papers. I have experience as a private tutor and by being one, I have learned how to explain material so people will understand, without giving away answers. As a private tutor, I was required to make every appointment and planned other events around it, since my clients heavily counted on me to be there. I never missed an appointment. I am always prompt and attentive to the people I tutor. I believe I hold excellent study habits and can offer them to others.I tutored individuals from ages 5 to 45 in Spain in the English subject. I held 8 clients a week and privately tutored from 1 to 2 individuals at a time.

I am a very reliable person. I have an excellent memory and have always excelled in school. I am extremely good at explaining things to other people so that they better understand the subject. I have always been told that I am an excellent teacher. I am very good with younger kids and am able to relate to college students very well seeing as I just graduated not to long ago.While attending University, I would hold informal tutoring sessions with fellow classmates. I have always been a strong student, so I would make myself available to anyone else in my classes to help them to understand materials.

I've started 7 companies. These companies have employed hundreds of employees. My greatest accomplishments have involved tutoring and mentoring the individuals I've been bless to work with, many whom went on to start their own businesses, or serve in critical roles at other companies, including many CEOs.I taught two quarters of beginning accounting for Columbia College's San Francisco extension campus in 1983.

I am very enthusiastic about both learning and teaching. I get a lot of joy from seeing a student succeed. I love to see the "light bulb" come on after a student has been struggling to understand a subject, and it is especially rewarding to watch their independence and confidence in the subject matter grow throughout the semester. A few particular traits about my tutoring style that makes me a great tutor are my patience. I am a great listener and take the time to ask questions and understand what exactly they are confused about; I never give up, and encourage my students to do the same. Another quality that makes me an excellent tutor is my ability to get the student to understand the material. I would much rather take extra time allowing them to truly understand the subject matter, than simply finish their assignments. Finally, in the case that I am not certain with a subject, I always refer to the text, and help teach them how to teach themselves. I know many math and physics books are a tough read, but I feel like I have always had an excellent ability to translate the thick writing into more understandable terms. One of my proudest tutoring moments was when a former student referred back to the text on his own and made the connection. Giving students the ability and confidence to teach themselves not only set them up for success as a student, but as a member of society. This is one of the lessons I would like to instill in my students, outside of becoming proficient in the subject matter. All of my students have come from reference, and many clients have asked me to tutor for multiple semesters. One family had me tutor 3 of their kids (ages 14-25) for the past 2 years. I have a very good reputation with the families and students that I tutor for, and have only not connected with 2 of my students. In both of those cases, the students were not willing to learn and thought that I was going to come over and do their homework for them. In both of those cases, I had a talk with their parents and told them that I didn't think I was a good fit for their children, then recommended other after school programs that might help. I have never missed an appointment and am very flexible to changing times. I understand that everyone has busy schedules, and sometimes family matters or group projects come up. I would be willing to give out my phone number to the families for flexibility. I am not sure how your booking system works, but that is always an option for me.

I would be a great tutor because, in my experience, I have found a innate ability and knack for understanding and relating to the unique ways an individual solves problems and attempts to reckon new information and knowledge. When I would work with students, I made a point of learning about them--how they see the world, what they like, what parts of life do and do not make sense to them--so that I can best approach them in and on academic grounds. Too, I have found, through this process, that I am readily adaptable and amenable to a student's needs and learning style. In this way, I can dynamically promote a student's aptitude for, eventually, working on his or her own.

Academic excellence is very important to me. I was in the top 5% of my high school graduating class, and am currently on the Dean's list at Cal Poly. Both of my parents are teachers, so doing well in school has always been very important in my family. As much as I love doing well in school, I love helping others excel as well. I was always the person that other students went to for help if they didn't understand something in elementary, middle and high school, because I could explain it in my own words and help them understand the subject. Throughout high school I was very busy, so I became very good at time management. I competed on my high school equestrian team, was the president of my 4h club, kept up my grades in six IB classes, worked at three different barns, and gave lessons to an assortment of kids, including one girl who was autistic, as well as take care of and ride my own 5 horses. I believe that being on time and doing things the right way is the way that things should always be done, even if it takes a little extra time and hard work.
