I think I would be a great tutor for Grade Potential because I'm able to form a comfortable relationship between myself and the other individual. This allows for open communication and an environment in which they feel comfortable in being honest about how they're struggling - this ultimately allows to be the tutor they need me to be and get as much help they need. I am great at communicating and adapting a style of teaching that best fits the individual. I'm encouraging and always use compliments and positive reenforcement to both boost confidence and to recognize progress. I'm punctual, flexible, and able to focus on the task at hand without getting distracted by side conversations, etc. I can be trusted to be reliable because of my experience with jobs and being at work at the time I'm supposed to be. Additionally, I am a full-time student and a senior; professors at this level of education expect nothing less than punctuality. I will fulfill every commitment I make to Grade Potential and my students not only because I gave my word and am being paid to do so, but because I wanted this job to help other students who need help just like I did and can only accomplish that by fulfilling my commitment to them.

I've spent my life devoted to my schoolwork, not just because I was told to but because I am dedicated to learning new things and bringing that information to people who also want to learn it. Eventually I want to teach music at a university level, and I feel tutoring students in the subjects I love is a great way to begin that process. In my years of being a student I've observed my own teachers to determine what helps students learn best. I will communicate with the student so that I am clear about what it is they need help with, then I will apply what I have been taught to help them understand the material. I will fulfill all of my commitments because I know that if I fail in my own duties as a tutor, then it will not be me who suffers the consequences, but the students themselves. I want to help students perform outstandingly in their classes, and I do not what to see them suffer as a result of negligence.

I am very eager to help students grow and reach their fullest potential! I am energetic, organized, responsible and very comfortable aiding students in becoming successful students.I have experience tutoring many age ranges in Science courses, as well as many elementary and middle schoolers in math and science courses.

I am excellent with other people, and am very cheerful and patient. I am very approachable, and people find it easy to ask me questions - I also have had many experiences at school and in other activities outside of school where it was necessary that I had much face-to-face interactions with others.

Prior to becoming a tutor at SBCC I took a course on teaching using the Socratic Method. As a tutor I found that by asking and prompting the student to ask questions I was able to help the student develop critical thinking skills and thus gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter.I worked as psychology tutor at Santa Barbara City College. In addition to tutoring psychology, I worked as an assistant to a professor at SBCC and helped write an online Introduction to Psychology course for the department.

I have experience working with youth from first through twelfth grade in the classroom and in a summer camp setting. I feel confident working with youth and college-aged young adults. I feel confident in terms of my ability to work with and relate to other people, and have been told that I am a strong extemporaneous speaker and good active listener. I am also confident in my knowledge and aptitude with all subjects listed above.I also am strongly self-motivated and able to keep appointments and commitments. As a graduate student in an extremely self-directed and very rigorous academic program, I have learned to be disciplined about scheduling myself and meeting self-imposed deadlines. I am carrying a 3.43 GPA in my program (which is weighted differently than other programs, in that the "B" range is actually 86-94% and the "A" range is 95% and above).

I love teaching, but I love people more. I believe I would be a good tutor because I care for those I am tutoring. I enjoy seeing people succeed academically and personally for their own sake. This care that I have for those I am teaching has contributed to the patience I have exhibited when working with a student who is having an especially difficult time learning. Additionally, it has provided me with motivation to teach well and stretch my mind in order to create new ways of explaining things that are clear and effective for teaching.

I believe that I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I am a sociable person in a 1-on-1 environment. I am friendly and will check on my students from time to time, to see if they are staying up to speed with their class. Since I have been to multiple tutors myself, I understand the struggles of being a student that requires extra time with their tutor. I hope to use this experience as a tutor to focus on topics that my students are struggling in, even if they are too shy to admit it. I am also a punctual, organized, and reliable person. I keep track of all of my assignments, appointments, and events on my calendar and I make sure to arrive on time. In addition, I am very easy to get into contact with because I religiously check my e-mails.
