Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I am particularly good at explaining complex problems in a simple way and grasping what a student is struggling with in order to quickly lead them to understanding the issue that they were having problems with. I make sure as I am tutoring whatever subject I'm helping someone with that I master the material in order to provide the best help for the student. This often requires having to seek out unresolved questions off-time in order to make sure every component of a problem is completely understood. I am very reliable, I am not someone who is late to things, and I make sure that when my presence in particular is needed for an event that I make it my highest priority to be there are present since it isn't for me that I am needed but for someone else. I have had lots of previous experience tutoring various math subjects, as well as a little experience tutoring computer science related material (though this is solely regarding experience where I was paid). In computer science classes, I'm the one who people go to when they have a question and I actively seek out helping people with their questions, I guess just because I enjoy it.

I think I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I really enjoy teaching others and have been doing so for a long time. Even as a child I taught my younger sister to read and do basic math at the age of four, she even skipped kindergarten because she was so advanced. I have a fairly open schedule and am always on time to work.I worked at Kumon Math and Reading Center here in SLO for about a year. There, along with my coworkers, we helped many kids improve their math and reading abilities. I also had the task of working with the kids who were five years old and younger, which was pretty difficult since it was not only about teaching them, but also being understanding of the fact that they were more difficult than the older children who stayed focused easier.

I believe I would make a great tutor because I communicate things to people well. I have no problem explaining ideas and concepts. I know when my words don't settle well; which makes it easy for me to switch my style if that's what it takes to help students learn more effectively. I am a quick learner when it comes to new material, so if any trouble arises when trying to help a student solve a problem, it doesn't take me long to learn it, and in turn, teach it. Of course, I understand some people don't have the ability to grasp concepts as fast as others; which is why I am patient-tempered. I do not focus on the job aspect of teaching other people, because what's most important is making sure people realize that they can learn with effort and a little help from a tutor. It is in my best interest to make sure that any of my future students can count on me being there for them. I would do anything to make sure I am there to help them with any school related problems, because I know how frustrating it can be sometimes to have questions but no one around to answer them.

I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I am a friendly, understanding, and patient person. I feel those are qualities that are needed to help tutor students. I am organized and keep a planner with me everywhere I go. That is my reason for choosing to have such a tiny planner, so that way I can be able to fit my planner into any purse I carry. I mark down any appointments, events, meetings, and just any other times that I need to have saved. I do that so I won't have any type of meeting or appointment overlapping another.

I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant throughout high school and college. My first experiences were working with K-3 grade students in a Spanish-immersion school where we worked on communication, reading, writing and composition. In college, I was a TA for a Geographic Information Systems course (GIS318, Applications in GIS) and also tutored the students in the class.

I believe I would make a great tutor because I firmly believe in education. I was helped by many people to be where I am to this day. I like to give back unto others and tutoring is a great way in which I am able to do this. I like to be a role model for younger students and if I am able to help a student not only get their homework done, but actually develop an understanding of the subject, then I feel accomplished. I am warm hearted and patient with children. I was special ways of sparking interest to people and I want my future students to accomplish their educational goals.

I am very friendly, and people find me down-to-earth, and approachable. I also make good use of the student's time by focusing on difficult conceptual questions and common problem-solving approaches.I have been employed by Cuesta College as a Math and Physics tutor since October 2013, and I have also done private tutoring since that time as well. My private tutoring has been in Calculus 1 and 2, Physics 208A, and Introductory Spanish.

I have a passion for history and literature and believe I can both transfer this passion to students and help them better understand material they may be struggling with. I also will be applying to graduate school after I have finished my undergraduate studies, with the intent to become a professor. I will be in SLO the entire summer and have more than enough time to dedicate to tutoring. I have a car and have held multiple jobs in the past, which I feel demonstrates my reliability.
