As a Biochemistry major, I am very familiar with subjects such as math, physics, chemistry, and biology. I took not only AP Chemistry and AP Biology, but college level math, physics, chemistry, and biology courses, and excelled in all of them. Taking various courses at UCSB enabled me to be knowledgeable in these fields. From my tutoring experiences, I have successfully honed my communication skills and the ability to get the concepts across to each of my students. Each student learns at different speeds and levels. I have learned how to tailor my teaching styles to each individual. I am currently working as an undergraduate researcher at UCSB. The most important characteristic I have developed through tutoring and research is patience. I am a patient individual who takes time to ensure all my students fully understand the concepts before I move on to the next subject. I take commitments very seriously. I have been working in the same lab at UCSB for three years, since my freshmen year of college. Working in a lab for three years as an undergraduate is significant and reflects my commitment and dedication. As a tutor, I am almost never late to appointments and take each appointment very seriously.

I have always enjoyed working with students, whether or not they were my age. Throughout both high school and middle school, I always helped my friends. I always got A's and B's and wanted them to achieve the same amount of success. While they learned a lot from me, I learned to be a better student myself. My peers elected me as president in both my 8th and 12th grade choirs. I learned a great deal of responsibility with my leadership positions. I also find punctuality and organization very important, which is helpful as a tutor. I am confident that my skills can help students.

I have a dynamic range of experience in teaching environments and various school systems. I am also very well educated and have a 4.0 GPA in an array of subjects. I am extremely punctual and professional. I believe that every student has a different way of learning, and I am happy to discover that personal need and accommodate the student to the best of both of our abilities. I love to teach, and serve my community in that capacity.While working as a library media teacher (3.5 years) at Judkins Middle School; I taught the after school (or homework) club. The students in the homework clubs at any school; need special attention and are struggling to keep up in their class assignments. This was tutoring and one-on-one teaching on a daily basis. Additionally, I have been a Para Educator or Teaching Assistant for 3 different schools in the past; where many students need a tutor; or individual help with various subjects.

I am a good candidate for your tutoring program because I like the learning process. I have experience with both K-8 and adult learners. I am a good communicator and am very personable. I view tutoring as the process of the learner becoming independent. I like to question them as to what they know and how they can use that knowledge to solve the lesson. I will show them the steps and different methods to solve the problem, if need be, but let them find their way through questioning. I am comfortable solving problems in different ways. I have empathy and patience with learners who struggle. If I do not know the answer, I will say so and engage in finding it out with them.

At Cal Poly, I've tutored through the TeAMS program, which placed me at Templeton High School's math intervention room to work with the students struggling the most in math.I've also tutored Cal Poly students one-on-one through Student Support Services, in PHYS 132, PHYS 133, and CHEM 127. I've spent two quarters so far tutoring in the Physics Department's learning center, where students come in spontaneously for help in any physics class.As part of the Teaching Field Experience course at Cal Poly, I tutored in various subjects at SLO High and Laguna Middle, including Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I/II, and Pre-Calc.I've independently tutored a SLO High student in Algebra I as well as a fellow Cal Poly student in Physics 133.During high school, I gave music lessons on guitar, bass, piano, and drumset. I worked as a TA on guitar for a "school of rock" summer camp, as well as a TA on bass for the Monterey Jazz Festival Summer Jazz Camp.Part of my duty as one of the drum majors of the Mustang Band at Cal Poly is to teach incoming band members the fundamentals of marching. I'm going into my third year as drum major.

I have extremely strong personal and organizational skills. - Worked as an RA for 2 years in university (both as first-year, and upper-class). In this role I coordinated, organized, an supported residential communities while working intimately with 3-4 other RAs, and a community advisor. - After 5 months in my current job at Zodiac Aerospace my supervisor recommended me to transfer to a more fast-paced business unit within the company. In my new role within the Prototypes department I am tasked with coordinating and managing the department's 3 purchasing agents. - I am a Founding Father of Sigma Chi Lambda Pi chapter at Carnegie Mellon. As a founding father I worked with 23 other men to develop the fraternity's infrastructure, governing documents, and risk policies (I served specifically as our first Risk Manager, for instance).

When it comes to teaching, I believe that my exceptional ability to explain complex concepts in simple, easy to understand terms allows me to help students break through their confusion. When the straight forward approach does not quite get the job done, my creativity and quick wits help students to understand a particularly perplexing problem. In addition to my technical teaching ability a, my calm demenor and charismatic attitude creates a non-judgmental and safe learning environment that helps lessen the stress associated with learning a new topic. As far as reliability is concerned, tutoring would be my only commitment, and I would be focusing all my expendable energy on helping my students achieve academic success.

I think I would be a great tutor because I can be counted on to live up to your expectations and standards. I love teaching and feel that I have strong communicative skills with parents, other teachers, my principal, and mostly the students. As with all my students, I find out what their needs are and develop a plan on how to fullfill their needs. I pull from many resources to develop this plan. As I work with each student, I am continually assessing to look for growth.I have been tutoring students after school for many years in reading, writing, and math.
