I never give up on a student. Period. If one method of instruction does not have the desired effect, I differentiate, by taking into consideration the needs and existing knowledge of the individual being tutored. Over the past seven years, I have tutored at the grade school, high school, and university level with students ranging from six years old to sixty. My primary focus has been English and fundamental Math; however, I have experience with multiple disciplines. Depend on me to always arrive early or on time, track the progress of my students, check in regularly, and review important concepts while addressing new ones each meeting.

I am skilled at listening and deducing where students are struggling, and reworking the problem to help them understand. I know that when they make a connection to the material and internalize it in a way that makes it relevant to their lives, they are more likely to retain that information. I am patient and diligent, and encouraging in my approach. Everyone can succeed.

I have experience volunteering as an English tutor for Thai students and native Spanish speakers. I am a kind and patient person who believes that a good education is the biggest weapon. I am 100% sure that I can create a fun and peaceful tutoring experience.

I've been a tutor in both an informal and an official capacity since I started high school. As a strong academic student, I often found myself helping my peers to understand material in classes that they were struggling with, sometimes spending an hour or more on the phone talking through particularly challenging concepts with them. As an upperclassman, I extended this role as a TA for two lower-level Latin classes, a subject that I had excelled in and enjoyed teaching to others, both in small group activities and presenting lessons to the entire class (occasionally). In college, I have been a tutor for introductory Life Sciences and Statistics classes, as well as an editor for high school students' common app personal statements. While it's never been my "main thing", I've always enjoyed tutoring. There's a sense of achievement and satisfaction from successfully helping someone else to develop a better understanding and overcome an obstacle. In terms of reliability, one of the things I've learned from athletics and performing in a circus show is the importance of punctuality and preparation. As a gymnast and a performer, my coaches and directors always demanded that I be on time for practice, and as I transitioned into leadership positions, I understood that honoring your commitments to people by being on time not only allows a practice or a show itself to run smoothly, it fosters respect among all the people involved. Similarly, being fully prepared every time I stepped on stage or saluted to begin my routine has always been absolutely crucial to me; there are very few feelings more unsettling than realizing you have no idea what you're doing and are about to make a mistake with hundreds of people watching you!

In order to be a good tutor, there are some important qualities that should be possessed. Those qualities are honesty, patience, creativity, adaptability, and humanitarianism, in my opinion. These are all qualities I possess, which is why I feel I make a great fit for this position.

I have more than 2+ experience in teaching and helping kids in things such as their homework, projects, writing, reading and speeches. I love kids and I love helping out a lot. I've taught kids at a church for about a year. I've also had one on one session with the individual and have helped in any subject that was necessary.

When students struggle with certain subject material or certain situations, they tend to lose confidence and it begins to effect other aspects in their lives. For me, it is so important to support students in the areas they struggle with most because there is the opportunity to make other aspects of their lives better through achievement and success in areas they thought they couldn’t excel in. Every child has the potential to succeed, and I wish to be a mentor and a support system for as many people as possible. My end goal is to become a teacher for children in underprivileged communities and diverse areas, where I can give the most help and learn the most from my students in turn. I have worked in after care systems in inner city Syracuse, as well as San Diego, helping children with their homework and working to introduce art and creativity into their curriculum. My availability would be morning on weekdays, as I still work in after care programs. One on one student teaching/tutoring is a perfect way to give the support and confidence these children need to succeed. I am patient and creative with my lessons, and I would devote my time to seeing these kids succeed above anything else.

While earning a B.A. Psychology/Education at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, I completed a Teachers Aide Internship on the Navajo Indian School Reservation in Tuba City, Arizona and have loved helping students ever since! This includes my two sons, one of whom is autistic and children living in a San Diego Homeless Shelter. I love the art of Learning!!
