Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

Tutoring is a natural fit for me. I have a great balance of technical/mathematical education as well as a professional attitude and communication skills that i have gained during my time as a vice president of an electrical contracting company. My personable nature has always allowed me to gain the trust of others around me, which has lead to success in both the classroom and the work place. I have a passion and patience for teaching children of all ages and truly wish to find a position where I can put my natural ability and education to work for a greater good. I have had success in the past tutoring peers of mine, as my Engineering background has helped me to find different approaches to problems when a certain method isnt "Clicking" with a certain student. I have a passion for mathematics and a look forward to sharing my love of knowledge with a younger generation.

I believe that it is my responsibility and ultimate goal to help students and motivate them in becoming independent learners. To do so, establishing rapport with students is extremely critical to being able to have a great tutoring relationship that will help them succeed. I also believe that being a good listener helps pick up on cues that may show where the student needs more help in. Students and officials alike should see me as a reliable tutor and person because I have recently planned on going into teaching and to gain my credentials in the near future, which this job will hopefully help me succeed as well.

My current position as an Academic Coach has given me the opportunity to work with student who have IEP's. For the most part, the students on my caseload have difficulties with paying attention, processing information and a few are on the autism spectrum. Grade Potential seems like it mirrors the one on one model that I am accustomed to and prefer as it allows me to get to know students and their best learning styles in a more focused setting.I have been working with students in charter school settings for a little more than 2 years. Throughout these years I have tutoring students in various subjects including English, Math, and History though I am most comfortable with English.

I spent seven years as a high school teacher, and one as a junior high school teacher. I have experience in working with various types of students. I have used many teaching strategies to assist in teaching a broad spectrum of students. Many of these strategies may help students that turn to tutoring for specialized help.As a teacher I know first hand that students and their parents count on teachers to make their students a priority. Since having a child and leaving the classroom full-time I have been tutoring. I will only commit to jobs and times that I know I can be consistently available for, because otherwise it is not fair to the student.I have been tutoring for the past three years. I have tutored high school students in history and English. I have tutored 5th graders in writing strategies, and I have tutored college students taking social science and humanities courses.

I would be a great tutor because I have a passion for education as a certified teacher. I love seeing those "light bulb" moments! I have worked with many students during my field experiences and designed small group lessons to help make concepts meaningful for students. Additionally, I have experience outside of the classroom tutoring students in subjects of elementary math on the 3rd and 4th grade level. I would be reliable for the students and the office because I am flexible, willing to work hard long hours for the benefit of the students, and I try to bring an air of positive energy and creativity in all that I do.

I worked for many years as an Applied Behavior Analysis therapist working one-on-one with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. While I love teaching in the classroom, I miss having the opportunity to work individually with students. I passionately believe that every child can be successful when given the right support and positive encouragement.

For the past seven years that I have worked for the district as a Instructional Assistant, teaching has become a passion of mine. I am involved with the youth and have a strong passion to help our youth in academics and becoming great leaders. I am currently going to go back to school to receive my Masters in Education with a credential in Special Education.

I homeschooled my daughter. she is now in a private College. I am patient, kind yet firm and flexible. I am focused and can keep students on task. I can offer some breathing and stretching techniques to help students ground, become present, calm and focused to do the work in front of them.
