I have extensive experience as an academic counselor. In this capacity I have assessed students strengths and weaknesses and aided students and families create academic goals and develop plans for students to achieve those goals.I have tutored upper elementary and middle school aged students in a variety of subjects.

I would be an excellent tutor because I am friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and my goal with this program is to see you succeed, and do well in your classes.I was an English Tutor and a Learning Facilitator for Allan Hancock College from September 2001 until March 2003. I tutored students one-on-one at the Hancock Library, and at the Hancock Language Building. I was also an in-class tutor for a lot of the basic English Composition classes. I have helped students with composing sentences, grammar, and writing academic style writing. I have also helped ESL students with overcoming their language barriers in their writing.

I love helping kids "get it" when they're struggling with a math concept.I have been a volunteer math tutor at Harloe Elementary for two years. I have helped students in third through sixth grades. I also homeschooled my older son for four years (K-3rd grade) and my younger son for one (Kindergarten).

I have been an avid reader throughout my life, & would very much like to help others with their reading skills. I believe that my passion for reading would help inspire students.I feel very comfortable with basic art principles & practices should the need for art tutors ever arise.I taught 3-Dimensional Design classes to undergraduates as a grad student T.A. at Arizona State University in 1992-1993.I also tutored younger students in reading when I was in elementary school.I have helped supervise college students at P.C.P.A. Theaterfest (Hancock College) with their projects in the props department.

I have been told by the students I have tutored that I would make a great teacher and that I should be a tutor. I love to teach and especially love math.I have recently tutored Andrew Frudden in Algebra 2. We had great success. We covered about half of his book. I have tutored my wife in algebra. I have tutored students with disgraphia which is like dyslexia. I have had success with tutoring students with this challenge.

I'm patient, fun, and great with kids! I've had a lot of informal tutoring experience, and I love sharing my passion for words with others. It also helps that I've HAD a tutor. Yep, in high school I was terrible at math. The teacher I had in school wasn't explaining things in a way that made sense to an artistic, visual learner like me, so I looked for a tutor. My tutor knew how to make math make sense to me, and it was such a relief to finally stop being frustrated with a subject that was hard for me. Because I've both tutored and have had a tutor, I think I've become a better teacher. I know how important it is tailor tough subjects to the way specific people learn because we all learn differently--Making learning fun and interesting makes all the difference!I grew up tutoring my younger brother and sister. My younger brother has a form of dyslexia, so I would spend a lot of time helping him with his spelling, finding books I thought might interest him so he'd enjoy reading a little bit more, and helping him build up his confidence by listening to him read aloud. I'd create little mnemonic devices for him so he could remember spelling words and grammar rules better, and I stuck with him and stayed patient, even when he got frustrated. It took a lot of time and effort, but we stuck with it, and to this day I am so proud of him for working so hard to overcome the hand he was dealt.Later, in high school, I would help my classmates with tough English assignments. They'd ask me for help with proofreading, or we'd talk about decoding the tricky symbolism and flowery vocabulary in the books we were reading in class. I also helped work on my school newspaper, editing and writing stories. I love sharing my passion for writing and reading with others, and I think that over the years it's taught me to be a patient and fun teacher!

I always arrive on time. I know the matterial for pre-algerbra, algerbra and geometry. I love helping students achieve their goals and I mostly love seeing the face on students when that light bulb goes off and all of a sudden the matterial makes perfect sense to them.I have tutored a couple times before teaching Pre-Algerbra, Geometry and Algerbra. I am currently tutoring at my job as an after school teacher to elementry children.
