i like one on one teaching. i personally am an enthusiastic learner and researcher and hope that my joy of learning rubs off on my students. i try to find the things that a student is interested in and tie that into what the student has to learn. i try to give the student a reason and desire to learn the material that is presented. i try to find the pace at which the student learns best. a good sense of humor helps and also being shock proof when students come up with weird or really outrageous examples or questions. i like serendipity in learning when one accidentally learns something while in search of other information. i like making learning a good experience. sometimes it's fun, sometimes the work makes it all worthwhile.

I love working with people towards a goal. I think it is a very rewarding experience to watch an individual succeed in an area they were previously struggling in. It is great to see their confidence increase throughout the tutoring process as they gain a better understanding of the materials.I have tutored in pre-algebra for a freshman high school student as a senior in high school. I have also helped friends with writing assignments in both high school and college. Writing is truly my passion and I really enjoy assisting others in strengthening their skills.

As a scientist and sociologist, I love to investigate how our natural and human worlds intersect. This has led me to study and become well-versed in biology, sociology, anthropology and environmental sciences. I believe with my previous tutor experience, as well as my current position of teaching my own children in my privately registered school with the State of California (commonly known as homeschooling), I have the passion to find what it is that children need to grow academically. I believe that without having this passion to see those "light-bulb" moments, teaching would just be about day to day monotony, rather than taking in the beauty of seeing young individuals sponge up each and every breath of knowledge and knowing that I have made a difference in some small/or large way for them.I tutored at-risk middle school youth in an after school program for a little over 2 years. These students were enrolled in the program due to having an overall GPA of 1.6 and below, therefore at risk of failing. Participation in the after school program was designed to provide the student with personalized assistance in the core subjects of language arts and mathematics.

I am very patient, and I'm good at looking at and explaining problems in different ways. I have a lot of experience tutoring, and most importantly I really enjoy it.I tutored other high schoolers and a couple middle schoolers all throughout high school, mostly in math (Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-calculus), and also a little bit in English and history. Last quarter I also tutored a student in my Calculus 141 class- I didn't get paid, but it helped me strengthen my skills in the class and also reminded me how much I enjoy tutoring.

I have a good deal of experience with tutoring and I also have some experience with programming, which helps make me capable of tutoring computer science classes that I take within my major. I also have good test scores and grades as well as the patience and friendliness developed from two years tutoring experience.
