I am not only extremely knowledgeable with regard to the Spanish language, as well as English, but I am patient, understanding, and friendly. My first priority is that the student retains the information in order for him or her to master the subject even beyond his or her time in the "classroom" with me. I provide the information in a succinct, but not intimidating way and am extremely positive and encouraging.I am very responsible, punctual, and mature. In addition to my extensive professional experience and qualifications, my personal goal is to help people to succeed - both academically and in all areas of life. I thrive in a one-on-one setting where I can enthusiastically address and teach to the student's individual needs, utilizing his or her specific goals and motivations. When teaching English as a Second Language to new immigrants, I can not only offer empathy in the language learning process, but also in adapting to life in a new culture.Organized, detail-oriented, and motivated, I also offer strong time management skills and a great work ethic. I have been described by colleagues as being extremely consistent and reliable. To illustrate, while teaching university level in Vietnam, a playful motivational method of ensuring my students were punctual required them to pay 100 Vietnamese dong - the equivalent of about a penny - for every minute they were late to class. I held the same expectations for myself, and I have yet to pay any late fee.

I have had more than two years of experience tutoring children in kindergarten, elementary school, and middle school. Throughout this time I have developed ways to make learning fun, even for the most stubborn students. I am a good listener and let the student explain what is difficult to them before making suggestions, which makes for a more relaxing and effective learning environment. I have held two long term jobs in my short working career, which shows that I am reliable and punctual.

I've always enjoyed tutoring and helping students learn. As I went through school myself I was often asked to assist other students who had trouble grasping new concepts. I feel that I have a knack for explaining complex problems or situations in a way that the student can understand and am perceptive enough to know when an approach isn't working and I need to try something different. I really enjoy that feeling when they do get it and want to learn more. I've always enjoyed learning and love inspiring that in others.

Besides tutoring experience, I have had experience babysitting and leading a small group in my church's Jr. High ministry. Participating in these activities has allowed me to learn how to effectively communicate with children and young adults. My tutoring experience taught me how to adjust my own personal study techniques to address the needs of the individual student. I graduated valedictorian from my high school and have maintained my good grades while in college. I am a very punctual person and find value in keeping appointments. I have my own car so I would be able to get to any appointment without having to worry about transportation.

I grew up in teaching family. My mom is a Special Education teacher and my sister was briefly a teacher at a low income school through the Teach for America program. This atmosphere helped me gain a passion for knowledge, but also insight into the educational system. I learned that fairly often a student who is failing is not 'stupid' but rather unaccustomed or untrained to succeed in the school environment. I myself was one of these students, diagnosed in 10th grade with ADHD I had to learn ways to challenge myself to fit within the standards of the school system. I believe all students are capable of learning and mastering any subject, but some have been discouraged by failure. Everyone has a different learning style, and once that is identified, conquering any subject is possible. As for reliability, I take a personal interest in every student and truly want them to succeed. Anything less than 100% of my effort is unacceptable.

I am confident that I can be a veritable encyclopedia when it comes to English Literature, Composition and Creative Writing because I absolutely adore the written word. Ever since kindergarten, I have loved reading, writing and all things academic. For me, even now that I am in graduate school, the academic world has always felt like my home. I enjoy being here, I enjoy learning and accruing new knowledge every chance I get. As a result, I have always paid attention in school. I was the one that my fellow students came to when they needed help revising an essay or if they felt like they needed more extensive notes because I have always been the one to soak up as much information as I can get my hands on. I often say that if I had millions, even billions, of dollars, I would go to school for the rest of my life simply because learning is what I love the most.As a tutor, I want nothing more than to be able impart that same passion and excitement for learning onto my students. I firmly believe that academic success is a direct result of being able to see the inherent value in learning and that any student can be inspired academically. I possess the ability to not merely "know my stuff," but the ability to explain things in a variety of different ways to my students. Not every student will understand every concept in the same way. A tutor must be able to understand the ways in which a particular student learns and must adapt their teaching methods to each individual. I can do that. I am also understanding of and sympathetic to students that struggle with certain concepts. I have the ability to relate to these students (I have struggled with Math since elementary school) and I can be patient with them as I teach them new things. I know that I would make a wonderful tutor for Grade Potential because I find tutoring to be a personally rewarding experience. I'm not in this for the money or for the experience to add to my resume, but rather, I tutor so that I can see the moment a light turns on in the student's head and they GET the concept. To me, there's nothing more fulfilling than that moment.I am an extremely reliable person. Many of my friends in college used to joke about me because I was obsessively on time to everything; from doctor's appointments and oil changes to college classes and work, I always arrive at least ten minutes early. I currently have reliable transportation that will allow me to be even more dependable. Having been a tutor for a community college, I am aware of what it means to make and keep appointments and I understand the logistics of working with a client's schedule.
