Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I Started working as a tutor when I was in High School. After that I worked with several tutoring companies funded through the "No Child Left Behind Program" such as "1 on 1 learning with laptops", "Elevate Learning", "Academic Advantage" etc. I also worked for approx. 2 years for an after school music program with elementary and middle school students. I am a very responsible, patient, easy going and friendly person. I have devised my own teaching methods and learning tools as a way to become a more effective tutor. I focus mainly in the students learning outcome and achievement. What encourages me to still be interested in tutoring is the testimonials of parents that have written to me after their sons and/or daughters have successfully raised their grades at school and have done better in tests, feeling grateful and thanking me for taking the time and having the patience to teach their kids good habits in becoming better students and persons. I myself am very dedicated to my craft (music;jazz), and aspire to be great someday, while passing down my acquired knowledge to everyone that so desires to learn.

I believe I qualify for the job because I am passionate about teaching. As a Liberal Studies major, I have a lot of experience working with elementary and middle school students. Although my education focused on teaching elementary school, my degree involves an emphasis in Mathematics which allows me to teach Math at a middle school level. I aspire to be a middle school Math teacher, but would love to eventually teach high school Math. I enjoy working with students and building connections with them. I hope to engage with them and effectively teach in a way that makes sense to them.In the past, I have done AVID tutoring at a middle school. I was able to help students and lead tutorials in the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Social Studies, and Science. In this AVID program we helped teach students skills for college preparation. I have also helped tutor kids in my church youth group.I will be reliable for the students and the office by being punctual and doing my best by the kids. I would do my best in preparing myself and lessons. I would try to have resources available for the students to encourage them to seek the answers out for themselves.I've also worked in the medical field in the past which has helped me become more patient and understanding. It has helped me become more compassionate for people coming from all different walks of life.

To begin with I love to see a person succeed and achieve their goals which is why I have always found myself either working in schools as a tutor, substitute teacher or volunteer education coordinator. I started tutoring fellow classmates in AP History in high school and felt joy in helping someone really understand a subject they had difficulty comprehending. As a tutor in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program I gained the tools needed to teach children and adults the basic skills needed for excelling in any learning environment. While serving in the United States Coast Guard I tutored my shipmates in a variety of subjects relating to the service wide examination all members needed to take in order to advance in rank. I also volunteered to be the Partnership in Education Coordinator which allowed me to organized and participate in assisting local schools in extracurricular activities as as tutoring. I enjoy helping people solve tough problems and find it gratifying to guide a student through the process of understanding how they learn and use that knowledge towards achieving an academic goal. I am a reliable person who understands the importance of showing up on time with the skills needed to assist someone through a challenging subject. It is important to build a positive relationship with a student in order to establish a healthy learning environment. I am a friendly person who is easy to get along with and have always had successful tutoring experiences. I understand that communication is key in all tutoring sessions as well as with the tutor/employer relationship and have great communication skills. I look forward to being of some assistance to any student who needs a little extra help.

I have ample experience tutoring students of all ages. I've been an athletic coach for students ranging in age from 5-65 and have learned how to effectively communicate complex ideas. Academically, I've taught reading and writing for 1 year at UC Berkeley as a tutor in the Academic Center, worked with Elementary age students to develop their reading and vocabulary and catch them up to grade-level, and worked as a math tutor in an Oakland after-school program for 1 semester. I have reliable transportation and am of a very sunny disposition.

I believe I would be an excellent tutor with Grade Potential because of my experience tutoring children and because both my mother and grandmother are educators. For several months during my high school years I tutored elementary school students from grades 1-5. I started out tutoring a much younger cousin of mine, and then was referred to several parents whose children attended the elementary/junior high school from which I graduated. I love working with young minds and aiding them with homework and studying because I am thankful for the help I received overcoming many of the struggles they are facing at their grade levels when I was their age.

Since I was in high school, I always tutored children in English and Elementary Mathematics. I also volunteered at NGO's to teach underprivileged children and taught these subjects at a preschool as well. English has always been my favorite subject and I enjoy teaching it and learning about it. As an individual with experience in tutoring, specifically in tutoring children - I believe that I am a perfect fit for this job as I am not only hardworking, reliable, organized and committed but also extremely friendly and outgoing. I strongly believe that I will be extremely effecient at this job because I will be able to relate to my students, both young and old, as I am currently a student and because I have worked with children before.

I have been an instructor of martial arts for many years as well as a practitioner and perfor ER for piano for many years. The two of those mixed together makes me a dynamic instructor with experience working with many different types and personalities of people

I have tutored middle school and high school students in English (particularly, literature comprehension and essay writing) since 2013. I also am an honors student at Palomar College currently, got a 700+ on both the reading and writing sections of the SAT, have a 4.0 GPA, and am pursuing an English degree. Additionally I have worked with children since I was 13 and began my own "mother's helper" business.
