Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I'm a very professional and responsible person. I tend to pick up on academics very quickly and I've capitalized on this ability by graduating with my Bachelors at the age of 20 (just two years after graduating high school). Math has always been my strongest subject and this has also allowed me to be very good at picking up related topics such as Economics and Accounting.I'm very good at communicating with individuals and am able to take a step back and explain my thought process in layman's terms. I've found this to be the most important aspect when it comes to teaching concepts in mathematics. I'd like to utilize the next 6 months and give back to the community that I grew up in by sharing my knowledge before I leave to get my Masters in Finance next summer.I'm the kind of person who always arrives at appointments early. I've had multiple job/internship interviews where I've sat in my car for at least 15 minutes simply because I've arrived very early just in case of unexpected occurrences.

I believe I would make an excellent addition to the Grade Potential tutoring service because of my extensive and detailed knowledge of subject matter, my commitment to punctuality, superior customer service skills, and desire to help students succeed! Being currently enrolled in General Engineering at Cal Poly, my academic ability clearly has been tested and proven true multiple times throughout my school career. Given the opportunity to tutor the classes I have listed previously, I feel confident in my ability to convey the subject matter to a struggling student in a manner that is clear and understandable. I know how to analyze a students ability to grasp subject matter and investigate further to figure out which core concepts they are struggling with in particular so that we can work out the kinks together as a team. I have extensive experience in costumer service attained through time I've spent tutoring, working in the restaurant industry, and working around the needs of homeowners with the Remodel Services construction crew. I completely understand the importance of maintaing professionalism and catering to the needs of each individual client while simultaneously remaining personable in order to connect with my tutees and make them feel comfortable. I'm typically known in my friend group as the guy who arrives five to ten minutes early for everything so lack of punctuality and meeting scheduled commitments has never been an issue of mine. Lastly, I have deep intrinsic desire to help others succeed. I too have been helped throughout my life to succeed in situations where I otherwise would have struggled so I fully understand how rewarding helping your peers can be.

I have mentored youth ever since freshman year of high school as a 4-H State Ambassador putting on various purposed conferences and workshops. I love being able to watch others grow in their potential and find a passion they love as I have found mine mentoring. My peers often turn towards me for academic help and I believe it is not only because I understand the topic well enough to reiterate it in different ways but because I can easily pick out why the student is not fully grasping the topic, where the break down in communication is. In terms of reliability, there is no question as to my punctuality and understanding of professionalism as I have run a 500 attendee conference for a week as well as enjoyed meeting with congress members to thank them for the ordinances they have passed.

I would be a great fit to tutor for Grade Potential because I like enjoy with kids and helping people to understand things for themselves. The last job i had was a mentoring position for an after-school educational program known as Brainbuilders. As a mentor my job was to teach kids (K-5) basic concepts from advanced subjects such as physics and geometry through the building of Lego blocks. During that i learned that to teach others, especially children you sometimes have to understand how different people think so that you can help them to understand certain concept. I found teaching to be a very exciting and rewarding experience. I believe I would be well suited to tutor for the SAT because I spent a lot of time preparing for the test myself and learned many helpful techniques to succeed on the test (Received a 2050 superscore with a 12 on the essay portion). I could tutor pretty much any junior high level math and low level high school math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Pre Calculus) having taken and done well in honors level math classes myself in high school. Another area I would be well equipped to tutor in would be junior high through high school level english, especially in essay writing. I have spent a lot of time writing essays and learning how to write them for various needs such as college applications, standardized tests, and english classes. Lastly, I believe that i could be very dependable as tutor for Grade Potential because I have a good track record with my past two jobs and responsibility is a trait that I find to be of utmost importance in a person.

I feel that I would make an excellent tutor for Grade Potential. Not only do I have a strong education, but I have a genuine enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with others. I come from a family of teachers and am passionate about teaching and helping others reach their potential. I am receptive and open-minded. I can tailor my tutoring techniques to the individual manners of each student I work with for maximum efficiency. I enjoy working with kids of all ages. I have a lot of patience for working with younger children as well. I communicate clearly and effectively, and naturally take charge in situations where I'm needed to. I am completely reliable in terms of scheduling and appointments. As a college graduate, I have no time constraints and am able to work very flexible hours all week.

Teaching is my passion. I am currently working towards getting my multiple subject credential and I'm also looking to add and Individual Subject Matter Authorization in history so that I can teach it at the middle school as well. In the course of my education, I have had experience working with children in a classroom setting and I know it is what I want to do. The classes I take at Cal Poly are geared toward not only knowing the material, but being able to communicate that information effectively. I work extremely hard and love to learn; when I do not understand something, I take it as a personal challenge to learn more. This is a trait I hope to help instill in my students when I have my own classroom or any students I tutor.Outside of the classroom, for the past five years I have worked as a swim lessons instructor and lifeguard. Teaching children to swim has been invaluable to learning how to communicate information. It has taught me how to adapt my plans to fit children's specific needs and to balance various skill levels. It has also taught me that what works for one student might not work for another, so I am always careful to have more than one way of working on a skill so that everyone in my classes can be successful. Working as a lifeguard has given me a strong sense of responsibility and reliability. I am very aware of my personal responsibility to the people I work for and to the people I work with. I always keep my appointments or cancel the day before, because I know that I hate last minute cancellations. Once I commit to something, I remain committed.

I am very knowledgable in English and Literature, as I have received a top quality education from three institutions. I regularly practice reading and writing, and I am currently freelance writing. In addition, I love working with children, I am patient, a good listener, and know how to explain things like grammar rules and sentence structure. Further, I have a lot of work experience for my age and know how to conduct myself professionally and responsibly. Lastly, I am available for full-time employment and have reliable transportation.

As a tutor, I am personally invested in the success of my students. I understand the various learning styles and do my best to fit the particular style the student prefers. I have been interested in biology since middle school and started out as a biology major at St. Louis University. Even after switching schools and majors I decided to add a biology minor because I enjoy the subject. As for punctuality, I am most often early and have only once called into work for the birth of my niece (and I've been in the job force since 2004). I understand that as an employee in the customer service industry I am the face of the company and strive to represent the company well.I worked in the tutoring center at Fontbonne University for two years. I worked with 1-3 students each semester in various subjects. I also worked on time management skills to promote good study habits. In addition, I worked with one student who was studying to take the dental entrance exam. We worked specifically in the biology section and she raised that score by four points on her second try.
