Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I have been volunteering with Kindergarteners for the past 3 years. Individually helping to recognize letters, sounds and reading and one to one coordination. I also use to be a SECA (Special Education Sub.) for the Cajon Valley School Dist. I would be reliable for students because I always keep a firm, fun and consistent environment. I completed an Administrative Assistant class so I could help in the office, too.

In my tutoring experience I've learned that every student has their own pace and a preferred way of being taught. While working in the tutoring center at the Imperial Valley College, I had walk-in and appointment students of all ages. (from first year year college students , ages 18-21, to the elderly ESL students, ages 40 and up.) I also tutored a younger student (age 12) at home, who was placed in a special needs class for being dyslexic and together we improved his reading and comprehension skills. So it's safe to say that I am comfortable working with any age group. I would also like to add that I have absolutely no problem with tutoring special education students, ESL students or ADHD, I have all the patience in the world.

I would be a great tutor because I am passionate about learning and teaching. Additionally, integrity, attention to detail, flexibility and thorough communication are among my top priorities as an instructor. I have had over three years of experience teaching in classroom and private settings in the United States and in France with students ages 4 to 17. Some of the most rewarding experiences I can recall are times when my students have finally understood or overcome something they were struggling with. Each of the teaching opportunities I have taken has been unique in that every student has their own journey, a journey I am so grateful to contribute to!

I have prior tutoring experience with a first grader and a third grader in City Heights. I help them with math homework, reading, spelling, and reading comprehension. I am very patient, and teach each child according to their individual strengths. I do my best to instill confidence and a positive attitude and to make new concepts as simple as possible.

As far as tutoring goes, my strongest quality is patience; I'm willing to explain a topic in a hundred different ways until the student has a firm grasp. I try to make myself relatable and attempt to establish myself as a peer rather than a superior. As stated in my resume, I have a school years experience tutoring AP Language and Composition, as well as AP Literature. I like to joke around with my students while simultaneously giving them the information they need to succeed in the classroom. In my opinion, students have to want to learn, and I try my best to make it fun and engaging enough to give them a reason to put in the effort.

I currently have 1 year of experience as a tutor at the M.E.S.A center at southwestern community college. Having completed courses at the college on the basics and pronciples of tutoring, I understand that a good tutor is one that enables the student to find their individual keys to success. To provide the tutee with the resources and help that they need inorder to make them independent and critical thinkers. I have been working with college students for the entirety of my tutoring experience but have also wanted to inspire younger individuals into the studies of math and sciences.

I think I would be a great tutor due to my patience and love of learning. I am able to help people through difficult moments and validate the difficulty they are feeling, while encouraging change and growth. I also like to bring fun into any learning experience. I have a lot of energy and desire to help people. I have also worked as a graduate assistant for Baylor University and assisted in grading undergraduate assignments.

I have been an English tutor for the last six years; in fact, I tutored a majority of my AP Language and AP Literature peers in our courses when in high school. I have finished my second year of community college at Palomar College in San Marcos. While attending, I had the honor of representing Palomar at the 2017 National Speech and Debate tournament, Phi Rho Pi. Currently, I am set to attend the University of California, Riverside as an English major.Although my history is important, it's rather boring. I'd much rather explain what I love to do when tutoring and educating students. I have a profound love of argumentation and rhetorical analysis. I love to see my students figure out how to persuade and analyze through discussion, and at times, discourse. I am of the firm belief that, in order for one to be an excellent writer, they've got to understand that what they write has meaning: rhetoric carries weight and implications. Persuasion, first and foremost, is not about the persuader, but about the audience. I am of the firm belief that anyone can master rhetoric, if given the proper instructor.I have six years of experience of bringing students from failing to overachieving. Most often, I've found students struggle to write or finish assignments because their hearts are not in it. In order to write, you have to feel what you're writing. In academic writing, rhetoric is still rather personal, the language is just modified and the objective is far more clear.
