Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I understand that every individual has an optimal way of learning. When it comes to one-on-one tutoring with students, the approach to tutoring is what makes all the difference to whether or not the student passes or fails. I know this because I have past experience tutoring and mentoring high school students in my first job. I worked for an after school student development program called Cardinals Interact where my main role was to mentor and tutor students in multiple different core subjects. The program consisted of approximately 150 students. Whenever a student felt like they needed help with their homework or had trouble with a certain class, I was there to help them. Of course, there were regulars that came into the office all the time! I love the rewarding feeling of being able to help someone learn something or get better at a skill.

I have experience working with students when I was an Academic Coach at Helix High School, where I had to help students with assignments, conducted grade checks, classroom management, etc. Being a Biology major I gained knowledge in different subjects, such as Biology, Chemistry, math and I expanded my skills in writing. I would be reliable for the students and for the office because I am a helpful person, I like to be prepared before hand, I am not afraid to ask questions nor to answer questions. I enjoy working in a team environment and independently. Also, I am not afraid to learn something new, and if I do not know the answer I have no problem finding it out.

25 years of being a professor, I have mastered teaching Math like trigonometry and algebra to college students. I have also helped my 2 kids finish their engineering degrees and also my youngest I have helped her to get through her algebra and calculus.

I love being able to help others, in imparting my knowledge or just clarifying concepts for those who need help. I believe the learning experience should be engaging and interactive in order for one to fully grasp the concepts and knowledge. I especially love working with kids who are struggling in the same subjects or areas that I have, because I have the first-hand experience of what the major obstacles are in learning that subject. This is where I can share my experience in overcoming the learning barriers and the techniques I used.I have had experience tutoring ESL kids in elementary school, overcoming their language barrier by incorporating fun and engaging activities. Since I myself learned English as a Second Language, I have a clear idea of what works and what doesn't.

For years, I've personally went out of my way to teach people, whether it be my friends or my acquaintances. I have sat in the rain teaching one of my friends how integrals work. On some occasions my Economics teacher had me teach one of his Econ classes. One of my close friends messaged me practically every night asking for help in Math or Economics. I am always open to reading my friends essays and giving them honest advice. I have staffed boy scout camps to teach leadership to other scouts, many of which were older than me. In the end of the day I have a profound joy from teaching people, especially in a personal setting like tutoring. Just talking to me, it is clear that I love sharing and teaching ideas and I am fascinated by learning from others as well.

As a current graduate student, my goal is to work as an educational professional. I believe that it is important for all students to receive personalized help and feedback in order to best prepare them for their exams as well as their future careers. I have a flexible schedule, and am especially available evenings and weekends, so that I would be able to best accommodate the needs of the students.

I am willing to work with those who are really eager to learn. I know I have the necessary qualification and experience to help adults from different lingustic backgrounds to improve their skills in English and also take required tests to get academic degrees.I have tutored both small groups and individual students while working as an ESL teacher in Cuba, especially adult college graduates preparing for exams but also professionals who simply wanted to improve their proficiency in English.

I have a strong desire to help young people succeed on their educational careers. As a recent university graduate, I have the knowledge of what higher education is like and can help any young student with questions regarding college life and work. I have a strong passion for my areas of specialty and a strong understanding of them. I would love to talk and teach others about them.
