I think the best quality of a tutor that I have is empathy. I can develop a strong connection with someone and get them past any roadblocks they may be stuck on. MY second great tutoring quality is my patience. I find that getting upset or frustrated with s student trying to learn will only infringe on the process of learning. WE have to realize that if even small steps are being made then the student is still on their way to achieving.

As both a Latin American Studies major and someone who has spoken Spanish for the majority of my life, I feel that I am especially qualified to tutor Spanish. I have lived abroad in both Mexico and Argentina, and I go back to Mexico often to visit. In addition to having "real world Spanish" (which I think is especially helpful to students) I also have taken courses all through high school and college, so I know how to also teach academic Spanish. Finally, I really understand Latin American culture, and I think this is something that is really important for students who are at a higher level to understand, because cultural norms really do affect language!I absolutely love speaking Spanish and I think I have the skills to help students not only read, write, and speak Spanish better, but to also understand the language instead of just translating it.

I am very hard working and have a genuine passion for teaching, mainly because I feel it to be a mutually beneficial experience. The student gains raw knowledge on the subject matter, while I gain indispensable lessons on successful teaching methods. In the end, I derive an incredible satisfaction from making a difference in each students learning career.As a part of a successful learning, I find it equally important that every student/client feel comfortable, not intimidated by a seemingly "know it all" tutor. I am easy to get along to and very keen on identifying every person's needs.Needless to say, education is the foundation of a good and successful future. We, tutors play a crucial role in this process, as we create a learning atmosphere in which no question is a "dumb" question. It is for these reasons that I would be a good candidate for a position with Grade Potential.

Education is very important in my family. I grew up in a family of seven and the third child. With younger siblings and always helping them with their homework, I've developed the skills and passion for tutoring. Seeing them succeed through college makes me very happy and proud. I love this feeling and I want more of it.I have a lot of tutoring experiences and patience for students. Each student is unique and I treat them as individual. Each student learn different and I have the patience to accommodate those needs.I am an on-time person and I am always happy to do what ever I can to help students succeed.

I would be a great tutor because I fully believe a good solid foundation in education is the key to future success in anyone's life. I am great at engaging students and connecting concepts to real life examples. I believe everyone is capable of learning anything and I love explaining things to people. If someone does understand what I am trying to explain, I strive to find an alternate way of wording things so that they are better able to grasp what I'm saying. I know that the most important thing when tutoring is to have excellent listening skills to understand the needs of your student.Most of my work experience have been related to education. I currently work for a non-profit, School on Wheels, whose mission is to bridge the gaps in the education of homeless children K-12. I work as volunteer coordinator and I am responsible for training and providing support to our volunteer tutors to that they can be the best tutor they can be. I have learned a great deal of strategies for tutoring and mentoring students.

I believe I have the acquired skills to help tutor these students and future makers of today because I not only like to have these skills and keep them to myself but I would like to share them with others. I know that this is because when I was a student I needed someone who had skills in the subjects I didn't comprehend to assist me and be of help so I could understand the concept. Responsibility is what makes a person reliable and I can count myself as a reliable person, making time to not only to get done what needs to be done but help others along the way. I can easily say that if I place myself for this position I fully commit to placing the students learning first, so they may be prepared and ready. I enjoy helping others and being of great help to their needs, so they can not only pass their class and stop there but continue forward in achieving future goals.

I have had experience tutoring jr. high school and college level students. In 2006, I helped to tutor three college entry level U.S. History courses for the head of the history department, Dr. Barbara Lindemann, at Santa Barbara City College. In 2010, I worked at the Nagatani Academic Center at UH Mānoa tutoring student athletes in a variety of subjects. The subjects I tutored included English, Geography, History, Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian Language, and Political Science. In addition, I helped the athletes to manage their schedules, and assisted with them with improving their study habits. From 2010-2011, I worked as a tutor under the AVID and Pihana Programs at William P. Jarrett Middle School in Honolulu, HI. Through the AVID program I helped to run an after school study program for AVID students, and assisted with the in class tutorial sessions twice a week. As an AVID tutor I was charged with helping students with any subject that they were struggling in, including Math, Science, History, English etc. Moreover, I also taught the AVID students how to improve their study habits and academic organizational skills. Under the Pihana program it was my job to assist struggling Native Hawaiian students with their work during the class period. Currently, I am a private tutor for two home schooled, special needs twins. I help them in achieving better writing, note taking, and grammar skills. In addition, I teach them U.S. History and Hawaiian Language.

I would make a great history tutor for Grade Potential because of my knowledge, experience, and love of history. I would love to be able to help others with their studying of history so that they can come to at the very least have a heightened respect and interest in history by having them learn that history is about more than just names and dates. I also have helped friends and colleagues with their understanding of history during different courses and have always been able to make a strong impact on their ability to succeed in the class. I use different approaches based on the study techniques that the individual was already using, and then integrating in my own style of learning to help. I have always been very good at going to work with a work hard attitude and with prompt timing. I even was able to do this when I worked with the landscaping and maintenance department at my former high school during the summers working 40 hours a week doing physical labor in the Imperial Valley's 100+ degree weather starting at 5 AM Monday-Friday. Giving a high level of effort and being prompt for something I love would be a treat rather than a chore to do.
