The small Ohio city of Wadsworth is located in the northeastern part of the state, and if you ask anyone that lives here, it’s a wonderful place to call home. Wadsworth has a low crime rate, clean streets, and a high quality of life. Why wouldn’t you want to live here? With beautiful local parks and many community events and programs, Wadsworth has plenty of character, and is a unique little city in the great state of Ohio.
One of the unique features of Wadsworth is a festival that brings many visitors from surrounding communities to this little town — the Blue Tip Festival. A week-long festival that celebrates everything that’s great about living in Wadsworth, the celebration that takes place here is just as unique as the people that live here. Parades, carnival rides, street games, food trucks, petting zoos, and local craftsmen and merchants all come together for this Wadsworth party. The fun doesn’t end there, either. Named for the matchstick with a “blue tip” (that is almost seven yards tall) that is lit at the beginning of the festival, there are all kinds of quirky traditions that take place at the Blue Tip Festival.
You might think that this is a very random correlation — blue tip matchsticks and the small city of Wadsworth, but actually the symbolism makes sense. Before times change and many industries moved out of this area, Wadsworth was once a huge manufacturing center for blue tip matchsticks. The reason that this festival is called the Blue Tip Festival is to remind the community of its past, and the long history that brought Wadsworth to where it is now. To make things even better, the Blue Tip Festival is a charity event, as all of the festival workers don’t make a penny, and all of the profits go directly to locally run nonprofit charities. What a wonderful way to have good old-fashioned family fun, and all for a good cause!
Interestingly enough, the most jobs here in Wadsworth are generated by the local school district.
