Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I am experienced, patient, and reliable. My teaching experience comes handy because through the years, I have developed a strong intangible ability to engaged students with what I am teaching them. I also have the ability to sense whether or not a student is learning and can make adjustments to my instruction that would benefit the learning style of the child. Last, I am reliable because I have the mindset of representing my employer well by being committed to my students and always showing up on time for tutoring sessions, which is customer service.

I would be a great tutor because I know how to work independently as a tutor, while using a company for billing. I have previous experience working for Carney Educational services and am familiar with tracking tutoring appointment times, writing reflections on a daily basis on students progress, and keeping all student information confidential and on file. I have experience making schedules with students and being consistent in my tutoring appointments. I make being punctual to my tutoring appointments a priority. I am passionate about helping others and moving them forward in their studies. I know I am a good tutor because I use different resources and teaching styles to make sure my students learn. I care for my students and am detail oriented and pay attention to what I need to practice with my students. When I worked for Carney Educational Services I worked on a single subject with students either in English or Mathematics. On our first tutoring session I would give students a pre test (Standardized test for their particular grade level). I would typically be assigned to complete 20-30 hours with each student then I would give the same exam on our last hour of tutoring. All the students I have worked with have showed great improvement on the post exam, which is really rewarding. Helping others and feeling i'm doing something positive in my community makes me want to continue to do tutoring. I tutor students because this is what I genuinely enjoy doing, which is why I think I would be a great candidate to take on a tutoring position.

I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I am a great student myself, and am pursuing a degree in the teaching field. Because of this, I have a lot of knowledge about how to lead students to an answer and promote independant learning skills over time, rather than providing answers to students. I have been working as an instructional assistant in elementary school classrooms for the last 4 years, as well as 9 years experience at a summer camp based around students with language delays.

I care. I am patient. I've been the kid who doesn't "get it". My son has been that kid, and still faces those moments. I don't have a job right now, and I volunteer 3-4 days a week at his school. I've always held late night jobs serving and bartending, missing out on my family. It would be nice to have a flexible schedule, and I can manage a part time job at this point in my life because my husband's career is taking off. I like kids. I can relate to them. My husband often jokes he has two kids. I don't give up. I can't and I won't. Where there's a will there's a way. I know how to familiarize something that seems so foreign to another person, because I know they are capable and it is just a matter of seeing what triggers those synapses! I'm not afraid to make mistakes. it has helped me become a good listener and it is a good skill to pass on. Why? Too, often I see kids throw their hands up in defeat because they don't "get it"; they make mistakes. The stone wall flies up. To teach them, it's okay, and that there's another way to understand, trial and error, better preps them to future obstacles. We all learn at different speeds and different ways, that is why we are different. But we are all the same in that we are all capable. We all have our strengths and our weaknesses.

I have taught for eight years and I love my job. The students are amazing each one of them bringing new ideas, concerns and different styles of learning to me daily and I enjoy helping all of them learn the material and become successful. I understand that there are a variety of learners and it is important to make sure that have various lesson plans and techniques so everyone in your class can be successful, this can be done on a one to one level to help the student learn the material in a variety of ways. I am highly organized and very driven. I excel at being on time and will fulfill any commitments that I make; I instill with my students how important it is to be responsible and reliable for any commitment that you make.

I absolutely love tutoring other students. Not only do I get to see the student succeed, but I can cement my knowledge in that subject which furthers my education as well. I have had over four years of experience tutoring already and was able to raise student's grades the amounts that they needed. For math, I took and passed the AP calculus test in high school and went on to take calc II at Cal Poly. I also took and passed the AP chemistry, Spanish, and English writing and composition tests. As for reliability, I am part of clubs on campus which require my consistent participation and am currently part of a group competition for my major in which it is paramount that I am reliable. I have never been fired from a job, and have consistently held jobs throughout high school and most of college.

I think that the most important thing to mention here is that I genuinely enjoy tutoring, and because of this, I think the rest follows. I'm motivated to see those who I tutor succeed, and this pushes me to put more into the job. In addition, I'm a really affable person-- I don't have trouble getting along with anyone, and I'm a good communicator. Being a political science major, I get constant practice at making difficult information accessible to others, and I generally see doing so as a fun challenge. College has taught me the necessity and importance of being punctual and reliable, and besides, I'd feel terrible about standing up a student!

I enjoy helping people grasp new concepts and master ones that may be difficult for them. I enjoy thinking of creative ways to explain things and seeing the satisfaction of someone who has finally understood something they are struggling with. I want to help students not only get the right answers, but have the confidence and knowledge to know how to find them. As I've said before, I have several years of studying Spanish and a good amount of real world practice using it from my time living in Spain. I am proficient in reading, writing, and speaking. I also have a good solid grasp of math, and the extracurricular math activities I participated in in high school help me to think outside of the box in explaining concepts and problem solving strategies. I not only have knowledge of my subjects, but knowledge of how to teach. I am also a self-motivated person with a good work ethic. I keep my commitments. I worked all through high school as a self-employed piano teacher and mother's helper along with managing my schoolwork and extracurricular activities. I feel a strong responsibility to keep the commitments I have made and to do a job well done.
