Rockville Centre tutors are very proud of one of their previous pupils Amy Schumer who has gone on to become one of the world’s most well known and loved female comedians.
Original Schumer was born in Manhattan, New York, where she lived with her family on the Upper East Side. This neighborhood is well known to be very expensive and to house very affluent families. Just before Schumer turned 10 years old the family went bankrupt and were forced to leave their home and move to somewhere more affordable. Other family problems ensued, her father’s health rapidly declined as he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and Schumer’s parents eventually permanently split. Her mother Sandra Schumer (née Jones) served on the board of a Reform synagogue in Rockville Centre after their move to Long Island. For a spell Schumer attended this Hebrew School of the Central Synagogue of Nassau County. Rockville Centre tutors note that she also attended South Side High School in Rockville Centre.
It was while Amy went to South Side High School that her personality and comedic timing began to take shape. Independent classroom votes had her from a very young age picking up awards for “class clown” and “Teacher’s Worst Nightmare.” She very much enjoyed the arts and went on from high school to pursue theater studies. She graduated from Towson University in 2003 with a degree in theater. After she had completed her education she went back to New York City and continued part time studies at William Esper Studio for a couple of years while earning money as a bartender and waitress.
Her first big role was in an off-Broadway production, it was a black comedy piece entitled “Keeping Abreast.” From there she began honing her skills as a comedienne taking to the stage of the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City to do a stand-up comedy routine. TV’s Comedy Central televised one of her “Gotham” performances, which led to an appearance on NBC’s talent show “Last Comic Standing”. This is when people started to get to know Amy Schumer and her fame began to grow. Schumer has recanted this event as what she saw as her big break into stand up comedy. She eventually was to place fourth in the fifth series of the competition and from this point in 2011 she has never looked back. Being on the show not only grew her confidence and helped her develop her style but it also gave her the much-needed exposure and opened up many doors for her. Since then Amy Schumer has appeared on countless television shows and appeared in multiple movies.

Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
