The city of New York within the great state of New York is divided in to various boroughs, each with their own culture, flavor, and style. Brooklyn, being the most populous borough in New York City, has perhaps the most diversity among all of the communities within its borders. One of the more affluent neighborhoods in Brooklyn is Dyker Heights, located in the southwestern region of the borough.
The history of Dyker Heights is an interesting one. In the late 1800s, this area was primarily a wooded, forested area of the state of New York. A developer saw it as an opportunity, and developed a part of the forested area into a suburb, with the idea that it would be marketed as luxury housing. To this day, many of the original, extravagant homes can still be found throughout Dyker Heights. Many fine homes are still occupied by residents of Dyker Heights even today, though several of the more historic homes have been changed into various museums, shops, and fine restaurants. Interestingly enough, many of these beautiful old homes have been restored and protected, saving them for future generations to enjoy.
Though the fine architecture of these beautiful homes alone bring in plenty of tourists each year, Dyker Heights’ main claim to fame is its annual Christmas light display, which takes over the streets of Dyker Heights every December. Dyker Heights has been called the Christmas Lights Capital of the World, and it is unique because it isn’t just one street of Christmas enthusiasts; the entire community — each and every neighborhood — takes part in this light display. Tourists from around the country, even from around the world, tour Dyker Heights during December to see all of the lights in these holiday displays.
Considered to be one of the very safest neighborhoods or communities in all of New York City, Dyker Heights is proud of its safe streets. Many families move here to Dyker Heights for this reason, though the cost of living is quite expensive. Residents of Dyker Heights boast a very high quality of life, and have easy access to all of New York City’s rich amenities.
When it comes to education, Dyker Heights is served by the New York Department of Education. Public schools, private schools, and charter schools are all available to local students. For any students of any grade that might need extra after-school help, local Dyker Heights tutors are available. These local tutors can meet with each student one-on-one to help them work towards reaching their educational goals.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
