About Satellite Beach
Last year in the United States, the number of future teachers in America reached an all-time low. With stagnant wages, mounting demands on employees, No Child Left Behind and Common Core, and other factors that deter people from entering a challenging field, it is no wonder future teachers in America are waning in number. With a stagnation in those pursuing the teaching profession, projections in future classes look increasingly more difficult: larger class sizes, fewer educational resources, and poorer quality of teaching because of increased stress on educators. Thankfully, Satellite High School of Satellite Beach, Florida is taking necessary steps to address this trend. In doing so, the Brevard Future Educators of America, a club at the school, was founded.
In partnership with the Florida Future Educators of America, the Brevard chapter works to recruit students and provides a place and forum for them to find out more about what it means to become a teacher after they leave high school and enter college. Teaching as a career is difficult and demanding, but the Florida Department of Education has seen to it that the transition is an easier one, thanks to programs like this to encourage students to go into teaching.
A teacher and coordinator run each chapter, as they do at Satellite Beach High School, and counsel its members on academics and career paths for college. On a yearly basis, a conference is held that provides advice for mentors of future educators as well. High school is such a formative time for students to determine their futures; careers are considered, educational paths are charted, goals are set, plans are made, and with some shaping and careful guidance, the Future Educators of America Club can help promote the importance of a teaching career for bright young students.
Membership cards and certificates are important reminders of the role of the club in individual lives. They give an official sense of membership to students who participate, and are valuable symbols of the plans they are making for their future. Foundational passion for teaching is a crucial characteristic for any good educator for develop—and maintain—throughout their career.
Like the Future Educators of America, tutors in Satellite Beach serve the academic community. They shape students and encourage them to set goals, make plans, and turn bad grades around to ensure future success. Academics can be discouraging for many students, and may discourage them further from entering the world of education, but Grade Potential tutors are there to help turn bad grades around and instill a renewed sense of self-confidence in each of their clients.
