Mamaroneck is a town in Westchester county, New York. One famous spot in Mamaroneck is Walter’s Hot Dog Stand. Walter’s Hot Dog Stand was established by Walter Warrington in 1919. Warrington began his food stand business by selling cider and apples from his orchard in front of Skinner’s Floral Shop. Later he moved his location to Shepherd's Field and started selling his famous hot dogs. Warrington came up with his own special blend of beef, pork, and veal to make his hot dogs just right. When he cooked the hot dogs he would split it down the middle, and grill it in his own secret sauce. Then he would serve the hot dog on a toasted bun with his signature mustard, and a choice of mustard seeds, relish, and spices. At his new location, Warrington was even able to built an onsite cider press to continue selling his fresh apple cider. In 1928, Warrington was finally able to buy his own property where built his iconic pagoda. The town of Mamaroneck responded well to Warrington's delightful dogs, and Walter’s Hot Dog Stand quickly became a local favorite.

Over the years, Warrington has proved that the taste and quality of his dogs is not just local embellishment. In 2001, Gourmet magazine voted Walter’s Hot Dog Stand number one in the country. In 2004, R.W. Apple Jr., a writer for the New York Times, described Walter’s dogs as, “topping the whole list,” of the best hotdogs in the U.S. In recent years, Walter’s Hot Dog Stand has received several awards and praises including making the cover of, Westchester magazine for the, “Westchester Bucket List,” issue of 2014. Walter’s was also voted WCVS-FM’s, “Best Hot Dog in the TRi-State,” in 2015. In 2016, the hot dog stand received Westchester’s award for, “Best Food Truck,” and, “Best French Fries,” and 914INC gave them their, “Small Business Award.” Westfair Communications gave Walter’s the, “Family-Owned Business Award,” of 2017. Walter’s Hot Dog Stand has earned a very positive reputation.

Walter’s Hot Dog Stand prides itself in serving great food and feeding hungry patrons from around the globe. In fact, Walter’s has received postcards from places like Nepal, South Korea, and Vietnam, with messages describing the writer’s intense cravings for a Walter’s Hot Dog. The business has employed four generations of Warrington family members, and hopefully those secret recipes will carry on for several more.
