Jacksonville Beach Tutors Come To You

Just southeast of downtown Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach is a resort city on the Atlantic coast of Florida. Although the French were the first Europeans to explore northeast Florida in the 1500’s, the Spanish established the first settlement at St. Augustine, only a few miles south of what would become Jacksonville Beach. After Spain gave up Florida to the United States in 1821 the area became home to river boat pilots and fishermen. By the late 19th century Jacksonville businessmen saw the potential for luring tourists to the pristine beaches east of the city. With the building of the Jacksonville and Atlantic Railway, tourists and prospective land owners began coming to what was then called Ruby Beach. In 1886 the place was renamed Pablo Beach after the nearby San Pablo River. As the area’s attraction as a resort destination grew at the beginning of the 20th century an amusement park named The Pavilion and then Little Coney Island were built to bring in tourists. Eventually these parks made way for Ocean View Pavilion which featured a dance floor, swimming pool, bowling alley and roller skate rink. It also boasted a 93-foot high roller coaster. Around the same time that Ocean View opened the city changed its name again to Jacksonville Beach, apparently to make more of a connection to the larger city to the north. Unfortunately, Ocean View burned in the 1950’s and today the only amusement park in Jacksonville is Adventure Landing along the shores of the Intracoastal Waterway. Overall, Jacksonville Beach is a family friendly coastal community with plenty of outdoor activities complimented by a vibrant nightlife.

It’s certain that a Jacksonville Beach tutor will be able to keep you ahead of the academic curve so you can enjoy the beach and the greater Jacksonville metropolitan area. Opened in 1995, Adventure Landing was the first of nine such amusement parks built throughout the United States. A combination land and water park, Adventure Landing and Shipwreck Island features miniature golf, go-karts, water slides and log rides. Ghosts and goblins invade Adventure Landing at Halloween at the park’s annual haunted house. During Christmas, the park becomes a winter wonderland.

Featuring a renovated 19th century railroad depot, a chapel built in 1887 and an early 1900’s steam locomotive, the Beaches Museum and History Park offers an interactive look at the history of Florida’s northeast coast. The museum includes permanent and rotating exhibits which focus on the history of the Jacksonville Beach area. “Naval Station Mayport: Guardian of the Southern Frontier” deals with the history of the U.S. Navy in Florida. The museum also features the works of local artists Enrique Mora, Leigh Murphy and many others. Throughout the year Beaches hosts visiting lecturers, musicians and artists.

Founded in 1966 by local theater lovers, Players by the Sea offers the best in live drama, comedy and musical performances. For thirty years Players was primarily an all-volunteer endeavor but in recent years has become larger and more inclusive with a wide variety of quality productions each year. 2017 plays and musicals include Little Shop of Horrors and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
