Northern Virginia is home to the little city of Fredericksburg, which is considered to be within the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. With its geographic location almost smack dab in between Washington D.C. and Richmond, Virginia, Fredericksburg provides its residents with a great centralized location and easy access to two big cities in the region.
If you look way back into Fredericksburg history, you’ll see that this town was the location of an important port in the state of Virginia. With the Potomac River not far, and the Rappahannock River a tributary that passes through the city, Fredericksburg was hub of activity during the colonial era. You may even recognize the name “Fredericksburg” from several historic battles during the Civil War. Since Fredericksburg was directly in between the opposing sides of the north and the south, the city found itself in the midst of all of the chaos of war. Because of its historic significance, Fredericksburg gets a lot of tourists coming through to see all of the sites year round. In fact, visitors to the area are one of the largest sources of Fredericksburg’s economy.
Other than being a city of major historical significance, Fredericksburg is also a shopping hub, boasting the second biggest shopping malls in the Eastern United States. Many shoppers from surrounding cities come to Fredericksburg for their shopping, and this really helps to stimulate the economy. Most jobs to residents of Fredericksburg, however, are located in surrounding cities, and many residents commute each day to Richmond or Washington D.C., both of which are less than an hour away by car.
Families that live in Fredericksburg love the historic treasures that the city holds, and they also love the beautiful old parks throughout town. These parks are well kept and maintained year round, providing safe and beautiful outdoor spaces for local children to enjoy. A local favorite is Old Mill Park.
When it comes to education, families feel that they have access to a high quality education system here in Fredericksburg. With their own school district, the Fredericksburg City Public Schools provide several public school options, including a handful of private schools. Also located within the city of Fredericksburg is the University of Mary Washington, a gorgeous campus that provides locals with access to higher learning. Students of all levels that seek a little extra help with their students also have access to local Fredericksburg tutors, who provide one-on-one assistance in reaching each student’s individual educational goals.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
