Before European settlers came to the area that is now Woodinville, Native Americans lived here. Specifically, the Sammamish tribe thrived in this region, living off the land and its many resources. In the late 1800s, white settlers came to the area, and on of the first settlers of the town of Woodinville, Ira Woodin, is its namesake. Not unlike many cities in this region of Washington, Woodinville’s main export was timber, and after a lot of logging and depletion of local forests, the cleared land was used for farming. The fertile soil provided an ideal environment for growing crops of all sorts, and Woodinville was considered to be a farming center in the early 1900s.
