    About Wilsonville

Just a short drive south on Interstate 5 from Portland, Wilsonville, Oregon is often referred to as the Gateway to the Willamette Valley and the Gateway to Oregon wine country. Originally named Boone’s Landing when Alphonso Boone, the grandson of American icon Daniel Boone, established a ferry across the Willamette River in 1846. More settlers off the Oregon Trail soon arrived to farm the fertile soil of the valley. After Boone took off for the California Gold Fields, his son Jesse ran the Boone’s Landing Ferry until 1872 when he was killed after an argument with a local settler. In 1880 the town changed its name to Wilsonville after Charles Wilson, the town’s first postmaster. For much of its existence Wilsonville has been an important transportation point for trade and commerce, particularly agricultural, between the Willamette Valley and the greater Portland area. The ferry operated for over 100 years but was closed in the 1950’s with the construction of an interstate freeway running through Wilsonville connecting Portland and Salem, Oregon’s capital. The new freeway’s builders nodded to history by naming the bridge across the Willamette Boone’s Bridge. Today Wilsonville is considered part of the Silicon Forest, an industrial corridor to the west of Portland which is home to several high-tech companies. Firms such as Mentor Graphics and Xerox are among the largest employers in Wilsonville.

A Wilsonville tutor will keep you ahead of the curve in your most difficult academic courses so you can take time away from your studies to enjoy Wilsonville, the Willamette Valley and the rest of the Portland metropolitan area. Boone’s Ferry Park is on the site of the original ferry landing built by Alphonse Boone. The park includes river access, playgrounds and a gazebo. The park is also home to the historic Tauchman House built at the turn of the century which is available for a variety of functions. Next door to Boone’s Ferry, the Graham Oaks Nature Park is 250 acres with over three miles of hiking trails leading to the Ice Age Tonquin Trail which will eventually connect with the neighboring towns of Tualatin and Sherwood. The park is great for wildlife viewing, having a picnic or taking an informative audio walking tour with educational information about Native Americans and the farming history of the Willamette Valley.

Kids and adults alike will love the Family Fun Center & Bullwinkle’s Restaurant in downtown Wilsonville. The amusement park setting includes several carnival style rides such as bumper boats and go karts. Visitors can also play miniature golf, climb a 28-foot rock wall or soar across the center on the Eagle Zipline. The cartoon themed restaurant has a wide menu of family favorites such as pizza and burgers.

For those with a desire for speed, Wilsonville is home to the World of Speed Motorsports Museum. The museum’s gallery features several permanent and rotating exhibits. One of the most popular displays highlights American Muscle Cars with examples of Pontiac GTO’s, Mustangs and Camaros. Another exhibit shows off stock cars driven by NASCAR greats on a banked wall just as they would be during a running of the Daytona 500. Yet another display chronicles the history of Women in Racing with profiles of motorcycle and dragster racers Sue Mitchell, Angelle Sampey and Shirley Muldowny.
