About Waxahachie

South of Dallas you’ll find the beautiful suburban city of Waxahachie. Full of bold Texas flavor and plenty of unique character, Waxahachie’s name comes from Native American words meaning cow or buffalo. Some sources claim that it means “calf’s tail”. With a rich Native American heritage, Waxahachie is a wonderful place to live, boasting a high quality of life for its residents.

Also called the “Gingerbread City”, Waxahachie is known for its local architectural style. Residents and tourists alike can participate in a local tour of “The Gingerbread Trail” through some of the city’s historic neighborhoods. During “The Gingerbread Trail” tour, you will get a tour of five of Waxahachie’s homes that exemplify these beautiful, unique architectural styles.

A popular local event, the Scarborough Renaissance Festival has taken place for nearly forty years each spring. Drawing in crowds from all around the state, this festival is located just south of Waxahachie. For Renaissance Festival fans, this famous local event is a must!

Known for its amazing Downtown Farmers Market, Waxahachie opens up its downtown streets to vendors and farmers from mid-spring through early fall. Each Saturday, the downtown area of Waxahachie is bustling with families, shopping for local product, handmade products, and enjoying the beautiful weather of northeastern Texas.

Waxahachie is known for having one of the most elaborately designed courthouses in the state. With a very unique Romanesque architecture style, it stands out among other nearby buildings. It’s gorgeous features make the courthouse a local landmark.

Families that live in Waxahachie love that there is always so much to do here. No matter what time of year, there are activities and events for all ages and demographics.
