When you’re visiting Tacoma, Washington, you might wonder what other communities are in Pierce County. One particularly interesting location in that particular county is South Hill (also known as South Puyallup), a suburban CDP with a population of over 50,000. It was founded in the 19th century and has a rich history that has been preserved by the South Hill Historical Society since 2001. Once a small, quiet farming community, South Hill quickly transformed into the lively suburb it is now known as in the 1970s. Among the landmarks of South Hill is Bradley Lake, a former peat bog which was made into a lake after three decades of peat farming. Outside of the lake, there is Bradley Lake Park, a 59-acre public site which is a popular hotspot for baseball, fishing, and ultimate Frisbee, among many other sports and activities. Both the lake and the park are named for Ward Bradley, a philanthropic landowner who donated all 59 acres to the city in 1997 and whose widow and son are among South Hill’s most active community members. Another historical landmark in the area with a legacy of several hundred years is the South Hill Heritage Corridor, which marks a long trail directly above South Hill that was used by Native Americans, early settlers in covered wagons who crossed South Hill on their way to the Oregon Trail, and the military forces of the United States alike, all key factors in the settlement of South Hill Washington. Nowadays, South Hill is home to locally owned restaurants such as Volcano Coffee, Picazo’s Taco Zone and Mongolian Grill, as well as shopping centers and other commercial properties. In terms of education, it has two high schools, Emerald Ridge High School and Governor John R. Rodgers High School, the latter of which is named after a 19th century governor of Washington. The student bodies of each school have demonstrated substantial competency in most subjects, and have won awards from the Washington Journalism Education Association and the Washington State Music Teachers Association. The prestige of South Hill’s schools is not surprising as the area features many successful tutoring establishments such as the Sylvan Learning Center and Kumon Math Reading Center. Both South Hill high schools also feature an extensive list of notable alumni, ranging from Megan Jendrick, an Olympic athlete who twice won a gold medal to Nick Harmer, bass guitarist for the Seattle indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie to Melanie Stambaugh, who at 24 became the youngest woman elected to the Washington House of Representatives since the 1930s. If you are looking for a convenient place to meet with your tutor, South Hill is also home to the South Hill Library, which features a teen learning center, a wireless internet facility, a bookmobile, and the Florence Davis Reading Room, named for one of the library’s most generous contributors. Like all other libraries in the Pierce County Library system, South Hill Library gives out free passes to various museums throughout Pierce County. South Hill is certainly a wealth of history and information!

Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
