About Richmond

Richmond has also been at the heart of a number of cultural art movements, and has created many unique musical genres, including several forms of folk music, bluegrass, and many music artists have cited Richmond as where they got their start. A number of beautiful local murals can be found throughout the colorful streets of Richmond.

If you have any interest in early American architecture, Richmond should be on your list of cities to visit. With several distinct and unique historical districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Richmond has a long list of beautiful historic houses worth touring.

There are so many things to do outdoors in Richmond, and Richmond has really made a name for itself as an active, healthy city. The Japanese Garden at Maymount provides a beautiful habitat for unique trees and perfectly manicured vegetation, while the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden spans nearly one hundred acres and features some of the most beautiful flowers you have ever seen.

Richmond Scholarship


Thanks for your interest in our scholarship! Every six months, we select the essay that our panel of 3 judges determines to be the best.

The Fall deadline to apply is November 15th. The Fall winner will be announced to all applicants on December 10th.

The Spring deadline to apply is May 15th. The Spring winner will be announced to all applicants on June 10th.

The current essay prompt is, “Who has inspired your education the most and why?”

Entries must be between 300-1,000 words.

No purchase necessary to enter or win. Void where prohibited by law. One entry per household per year. Winner will be notified via email on or before the Winner Selection Date. Failure by potential winner to respond to such notification within ten (10) days of notification, or failure by the potential winner to adhere to these Official Rules, will result in disqualification of the potential winner and an alternate winner will be selected.
