    About Renton

Located only minutes away from Seattle, Renton is a growing city in west central Washington. With access to a beautiful local river, lake, and nearby Puget Sound, residents and tourists enjoy all of the water-related activities available to them in Renton. Because of its location within the metropolitan area of Seattle, residents of Renton have access to all of Seattle's amenities, as well as many jobs for locals. Families love living in Renton, Washington.

Before any white settlers came to this area, the land that is now Renton was owned by Native Americans, who saw this land as ideal for their hunting and fishing. Salmon fishing was especially popular with local Native American tribes before white settlers arrived in the late 1800s. Thanks to the many local waterways, this area was also very attractive for transportation and shipping, which is one reason why European settlers decided to make this land their own. The area that is now Renton became a large exporter of clay, timber, and coal.

Renton became well known during World War II for for its Boeing production facility. A large producer of Boeing parts, Renton saw tremendous economic growth during this time. Since then, Renton has been seen as an ideal location for large corporations to set up facilities for production. The overall growth of business and industry in the area has caused Renton to grow, as more and more jobs are created.

Not many towns are known for the public library, but Renton breaks the mold. With a gorgeous building that literally crosses the river, the Cedar River Library was built in the 1960s and stretches nearly one hundred feet to cross the river. While enjoying a good book, a visitor can sit and overlook the Cedar River, watching as Salmon jump, in a unique and calming atmosphere. There has been some controversy surrounding the library, as renovations have been needed. A satellite library can be found in a more central part of town.

When it comes to education, families love all of the high quality options available to them by living in Renton. A number of school districts serve the city of Renton, and several technical schools and colleges are located in the area as well. Several private schools and charter schools provide alternative options to families looking for something different. For students that require extra help, local Renton tutors are available. These local tutors can help in many different subjects, working one-on-one with each student and guiding them toward success.
