    About Poulsbo

The small city of Poulsbo, Washington, is a unique community with a quirky local flavor all its own. From its Norwegian and Scandinavian heritage, you can see old Poulsbo from days past, and yet today, families love the progressive town that Poulsbo has become. With safe streets and a laid-back, small-town vibe, Poulsbo is a city in the Pacific Northwest that has a lot to offer both residents and tourists.

Of course, before European settlers arrived to the area, the land that is now considered to be Poulsbo was occupied by Native Americans. The Suquamish tribe called this region home for thousands of years, and utilized all of its rich resources. With access to Puget Sound, fishing was a very popular activity among the native peoples, and the local wooded areas were good for hunting game. Shellfish were also available along the marina, and the the Suquamish tribe thrived here.

Walking through the quaint downtown area of Poulsbo, however, may lead you to think you've crossed over into some Scandinavian village, as the architecture of the buildings is very distinct and full of character. With a similar climate and environment to their native land, Norwegian and Scandinavian settlers arrived to what is now Poulsbo back in the late 1800s. In its formative years, all supplies arrived to Poulsbo via boat from the city across the Puget Sound, Seattle. Thanks to its close location, supplies were brought over for building the city and constructing the structure of what is now Poulsbo.

Today, residents of Poulsbo continue to enjoy the close location of Seattle, as many residents commute to Seattle each day for work. Poulsbo is considered to be located within the metropolitan area of Seattle, and as such, enjoys access to all of the big city's amenities. Similarly, back in Poulsbo's early days, fisherman would take their daily catch into Seattle's fish market to sell, traveling that same easy commute across the water.

Families love living here in the small city of Poulsbo. With a low crime rate and easy access to nearby Seattle, people are generally really happy here. Good schools and passionate local teachers provide Poulsbo residents with access to great educational resources. For students that need extra individual help, local tutors here in Poulsbo are available. These tutors have expertise in a wide range of subjects, meeting with each student one-on-one to help them reach their educational goals.
