Portland is consistently rated as one of the most bicycle friendly towns in the United States. There are so many ways to use your bike in Portland. Portland loves to bike so much that the city are even annual festivals dedicated to biking. The largest festival is Pedal Palooza. The event features more than 200 organized rides throughout Portland. Many of them are themed like the Midnight Mystery Ride where the starting location is only revealed on the day of the ride. There is also bike polo and rides where costumes are encouraged like one called Galactic Disco . Bike rides are organized in family friendly and adults only categories and run the whole month of June. For out of town folks or anyone without a bike Portland also has a very successful bicycle share program. The Program is called Biketown and for a small fee, just $2.50 for each 30 minutes, riders can borrow one of more than 1000 8 speed bicycles from kiosks located throughout Portland.

Another attraction on wheels in Portland are food carts. Portland has more than 500 food carts on the move. Often the trucks will loosely organize in one location called a pod. There can be as few as 3 trucks in a pod or more than 60 carts depending on the size of the lot where they meet. Food trucks in Portland specialize in every type of cuisine you can imagine from Italian favorites, to Japanese sushi, to Czechoslovakian comfort food. Food carts are so popular in Portland that there are even smartphone apps to help you find the location your favorite truck on any given day. Some pods have limited seating and covered areas. They are a unique, well loved part of Portland culture. Meet your Portland tutor at your favorite truck for a bite to eat while you work together to get ahead of the curve!

Portland has a lot of parks and on a pleasant day any one of them would be a great place to meet your Portland tutor. There are so many parks that by one estimate most Portland residents live within 1/2 mile or less of park or dedicated greenspace area. Many of the parks are connected to neighborhoods and easy to access on foot or bicycle wherever you are in the city. Many of the parks have unique features that reflect Portland’s eclectic style. Gammans Park for example features a racetrack for tricycles. The racetrack includes tunnels, bridges, and scaled down highways. The highways even have white lines painted down the middle. Portland is also home to one of the smallest parks on record; Mills Ends park is just 24 inches in diameter. One of Portland’s most famous parks is the International Rose Test Garden; located inside Washington Park. Built in tiers on a hill above the city, the International Rose Test Garden features more than 500 varieties of roses. The Test Garden includes several themed areas including the Shakespeare Rose Test Garden. Originally designed to feature trees, plants and flowers named in Shakespeare’s plays, today this portion of the garden is mainly known for rosebushes named after Shakespearean characters. There is so much to do in Portland. Your Portland tutor will help you with your studies so that you can get back to everything the city has to offer.
