"We had a great experience working with our tutor, Danielle. She was wonderful, patient, kind, and always prepared. She even tailored lessons to Sofia's needs (and moods)."

Mount Eden, a small enclave in the Bronx, only occupies a few square blocks of geographical area. With such an idyllic name, one wonders what Eden might offer to local residents and visitors alike. Conjuring up images of gardens and innocence, parks do indeed permeate the topography of Mount Eden, offering green spaces in the middle of urban sprawl of a very populous borough. One place that might truly be called Edenic, however, is the New Settlement Community Center.
Constructed in 2012, the New Settlement Community Center serves the population of Mount Eden and its surrounding neighborhoods. New Settlement emphasizes physical health in all of its participants, and as a result, offers a variety of dance, aerobics, and other classes that encourage people to come together and participate in group fitness. A quick visit to the center’s website reveals schedules and information about ballet, hip hop, and salsa dance classes, in addition to swimming, swim team, capoeira, yoga, and group aerobic classes. With such a variety of activities, it seems there is something for everyone at New Settlement. For those interested in more than just physical activity fitness, healthy cooking classes are also offered at the community center. All of these classes are offered to a variety of ages, so children to adults can collectively benefit from what is available in Mount Eden.
Studies have shown that the presence of community centers, particularly in urban areas, decrease the incidence of gang violence and increase the rates of high school graduation for local students. New Settlement, as a state of the art facility, participates in a culture that helps communities thrive, and has proven to be a responsible use of local funds in its construction and maintenance.
New Settlement Community Center is active on social media, with Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts that keep individuals updated on the happenings at the center. As a community resource, the center provides an opportunity for locals to get to know one another in a positive environment, and of course, discover the joys of physical health and fitness. In turn, the community of Mount Eden is built up with camaraderie and commitment.
Grade Potential tutors, like the instructors at New Settlement, provide the community with a place and opportunity to grow—not with the body, so much—but the mind. Tutors in Mount Eden serve the local residents with dedication and expertise, and in doing so, revitalize the self-confidence levels in each of their clients. They help improve struggling grades, and students who are looking for a sounding board, an aid, a friend, and a guide find them in Grade Potential tutors.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
In-person at home or another convenient, quiet, safe location (like the local library). When families need flexibility, online sessions are also available.
Experienced, professional independent tutors with strong subject knowledge and a track record of working one-on-one with students. Many hold degrees in their fields; some are certified teachers or graduate students with specialized expertise.
Yes—safety is our top priority. Tutors complete screening through Simpliverified background checks, consistent with local requirements and platform standards.
Just let Grade Potential know. Your profile can be introduced to a different tutor at no cost to you, and once accepted, you’ll be re-introduced so sessions continue without losing momentum.
Support spans elementary through college across all core subjects (math, reading, writing, science, languages) plus test prep (e.g., SAT/ACT, AP, GRE) and many electives. If it’s taught in school, there’s likely a tutor with relevant experience. Adult learners can also benefit from tutoring services in a wide variety of subjects.
Most families choose 60-90 minute sessions 1-2 times per week. Cadence and length are set directly with the tutor to fit the student’s goals, pace, and schedule.
Often, yes! Especially when goals and levels are similar. There’s no additional cost for siblings to share sessions, so feel free share details in your intake so we can advise on the right tutoring package for you.
