The town of Marana, Arizona is beginning to benefit from the promised fresh perspectives of the experienced and recently appointed deputy director of the Parks and Recreation Department, D. Tyrell McGirt. He is assisting Parks and Recreation Director Cynthia Nemeth Briehn.
Residents are fortunate to have access to a variety of outdoor recreation options to enjoy Marana’s Sonoran Desert beauty. The latest is a new trail that parallels the Central Arizona Project (CAP). It is being designed and constructed thanks to a symbiotic partnership between Marana and Pima County. Town and County officials have an expected opening date set for mid 2018.
This could be the perfect setting to immerse oneself in nature and appreciate the magnitude of the CAP canal, which took 20 years to erect. Construction began in 1973 and it was finally completed in 1993. The aqueduct is an outstanding engineering achievement. Although lesser known, it is regarded to be on par with that of the Hoover and Glen Canyon Dams. This dam allows Marana to rely on a steady water supply from Lake Havasu. Local city tutored students will no doubt use the trail as a means to get close to the CAP and familiarize themselves with this intrinsic piece of Marana’s growth and development. Many local students are involved with #teammead, a movement to educate, protect and preserve the environments tied to the river water supply. Regular meetings are held to discuss environmental issues. One of the more recent debates concerns the repercussions of illegal dumping to the wildlife, the plant life and even the dangerous work for the volunteers tasked with removing it. You can find more information on the website www.cap-az.com.
If your city tutoring involves engineering or studies are of a geographical nature, you’ll want to venture out to the new seven-mile trail. The access point lies north of Tangerine Road where the I-10 freeway goes over the CAP canal. From here the trail follows northwest adjacent to the canal to the northern Marana Town limit. (At this point Pima County opens their stretch of the CAP Trail.) A dual purpose of this terrain, an earth berm, is that it will help manage the Tortolitas run-off. That has been frequently experienced during heavy rains. There is access for cyclists, walkers, hikers, but no motorized vehicles will be allowed access. This will be the second National Recreation Trail for locals. It was designated a National Recreation Trail back in 2003. Not forgetting there is also the Wild Burro Trail in the Tortolita Mountains. The Tortolita Preserve is home to the largest saguaros in the region. The Wild Burro Trail features a dense area of crested saguaros for you to admire.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
In-person at home or another convenient, quiet, safe location (like the local library). When families need flexibility, online sessions are also available.
Experienced, professional independent tutors with strong subject knowledge and a track record of working one-on-one with students. Many hold degrees in their fields; some are certified teachers or graduate students with specialized expertise.

Support spans elementary through college across all core subjects (math, reading, writing, science, languages) plus test prep (e.g., SAT/ACT, AP, GRE) and many electives. If it’s taught in school, there’s likely a tutor with relevant experience. Adult learners can also benefit from tutoring services in a wide variety of subjects.
