    About Leesburg

    Located on the border of Virginia and Maryland, Leesburg is a city just over thirty miles west of Washington, D.C. Leesburg also borders the Potomac River, and has a rich history and an interesting collection of local historical treasures.     Leesburg is the site of several Civil War battles, including the Battle of Ball’s Bluff. Being centrally located between many northern and southern camps, Leesburg changed hands multiple times when it comes to northern or southern control. Because of this rich history, many buildings in Leesburg have been preserved or restored, and date back to the mid 1800s. Over twenty buildings and structures in Leesburg are named on the National Register of Historic Places, making Leesburg a great place to visit for an American Civil War history buff.

    With a wide variety of public parks and recreational facilities, Leesburg has a lot to offer the families that live here. A local favorite, Ida Lee Park is a huge piece of property that was donated to the city by a local farmer and his wife. In honor of their family that lived in the area during its early years, Ida Lee Park boasts a gorgeous pavilion, a large picnicking area, and a fun playground for small children.

    There’s always something fun to do in Leesburg, and local community events are planned throughout the year to keep the townspeople involved. The Leesburg Flower and Garden Festival happens in the spring, and shows off some of the most beautiful gardens that the region has to offer.

    Served by several school districts, Leesburg families have many options when it comes to education.
