    About Hurst

Another city in Texas that can site the arrival of railroads for its foundation, Hurst is a suburban Texas community that made its start as a train stop between Dallas and Fort Worth. A now densely populated area within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, Hurst prides itself on its tight-knit community that provides a high quality of life to its residents.

Within the city’s public works department, Hurst has taken action to help prevent the spread of West Nile virus. They have come up with a clever way of remembering preventative measures to protect you, and they call it the “Four D’s”. The first “D” is dusk/dawn, which is not a good time of day to be outdoors. This is a common time of day for mosquitoes to be out and looking for people to bite. The second “D” is dress, as it is helpful to wear protective clothing that is light in color. The third “D” is DEET, a mosquito-repelling ingredient that is important in warding off these pests. Finally, the fourth “D” is drain. It is super important to drain any large puddles or containers of standing water because this is a prime location for mosquitoes to breed. The county’s health department in Hurst is very proactive about protecting its citizens.

A local publication, “Where We Live” is a recreation and event guide for the city of Hurst. It is released seasonally and provides residents with a look at different festivals, celebrations, and citywide events to look forward to in the coming months. Residents love how many different activities, classes, and festivals that Hurst puts on for their benefit. Getting involved is a wonderful way to feel more connected to the community in which you live.

Because it can get hot in Texas, especially during the summer months, Hurst provides its residents with aquatics centers, which are perfect places to stay cool in the heat. These family-friendly centers are located in park areas within the city and contain water park structures and fun features for slipping, sliding, and cooling off. Water slides are a popular activity within these aquatic centers, and children’s slides are available for the younger kids who come to play.

If fishing is one of your favorite activities, you can enjoy the great outdoors and work on your fishing skills at the fishing pond in Chisholm Park. Regularly stocked with fish, this area boasts good fishing throughout the year. Just make sure you get your freshwater fishing license before making the trip!
