A few of the favorites that happen annually in Garner include the Christmas parade, the Spring Eggstravaganza, and the Carnaval Latino. There are many other fun local events, and the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department works hard to create a positive, educational, and safe environment for the diverse people who call Garner home.

Garner boasts many local parks and recreational facilities, and this is one reason why families gravitate towards Garner when looking for a place to live in central North Carolina. A dozen local public parks are located throughout town, with almost five hundred acres of parkland in total. There are many open, green spaces, athletic fields, lakes, nature trails, picnicking areas, playgrounds, and so much more. A few of the local favorite parks are Greenbrier Park, Centennial Park, Jaycee Park, and Rand Mill Park. Garner Recreational Park is located near the historic area of Garner, near downtown, and includes a number of park amenities, including a barbeque area, which is perfect for hosting birthday parties. The Garner Recreational Park also has a very popular dog park, as well as a bike trail that gets a lot of traffic.

With ten public elementary schools, three public middle schools, and one public high school, Garner is served by two school districts, Johnston County Public School District and Wake County Public School District. Beyond the public schools available, there are also several private schools and charter schools, which provide alternative educational options for students that live in Garner.
