“Everything is greater in Decatur” according to residents of the suburb and seat of DeKalb County a few miles east of Atlanta. Ranked as the fourth best Atlanta suburb by the real estate website Movoto.com, Decatur boasts a busy downtown, excellent schools with a high school graduation rate of 94 percent and one of the shortest commutes in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Decatur is home to the annual Decatur Arts Festival held in May. The festival kicks off with the Lantern Parade in early May where participants carry their own home made lanterns, wear lantern hats or twirl illuminated parasols. The Memorial Day weekend festivities are highlighted by the Artwalk, a night of art exhibits throughout the city, the Acoustic Palette Tent with art and music, the Artists Market featuring the works of over 150 artists and the Kids Arts Festival.
Decatur is also home to the DeKalb History Center which gathers, organizes and displays the history of DeKalb County, Georgia. Initially established in 1947, the History Center includes a museum and archive on its main floor. The Center also maintains three antebellum (before the Civil War) structures in Decatur. The Benjamin Swanton house is the oldest existing building in Decatur and DeKalb County, built in 1825. Although it was named after Benjamin Franklin Swanton it was originally built by Ammi Williams and sold to Swanton in 1852. Biffle Cabin, built around 1840 and the Thomas Barber Cabin built by George and Martha Thomas in the 1830’s also stand at Decatur’s Adair Park Historic Complex along with Swanton House.
A Decatur tutor can get you caught up on your academics so you can enjoy the historical attractions in your area. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the Decatur Cemetery is the resting place of many of the citizens who built DeKalb County and the state of Georgia. The cemetery has headstones which date back to 1823 and hosts a walking tour called “Lives that Made our City” visiting 40 gravesites on the 54-acre grounds. Along with the historic cemetery, the city also offers the Decatur Ghost Tour. The tour begins in the bustling downtown area where, according to the tour’s website, the quaint downtown shops “share common space with the ghosts of Decatur’s exciting past.” The tour also claims to take visitors to secluded streets where the sounds of wounded soldiers can still be heard. The tour ends in the historic cemetery.
Finally, after a visit to the cemetery and a tour of ghostly intrigue, Decatur’s nightlife should not be missed. This part of Georgia’s claim to fame in recent years is the abundance of great musicians who are local to the area. Many of these local artists, including Indigo Girls, John Mayer, Sugarland and Shawn Mullins, began their careers at Eddie’s Attic in downtown Decatur. Other spots of interest, especially for live music, would be Kavarna, the Wahoo Grill or the Twisted Soul. All serve up tasty treats and adult beverages.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
In-person at home or another convenient, quiet, safe location (like the local library). When families need flexibility, online sessions are also available.
Experienced, professional independent tutors with strong subject knowledge and a track record of working one-on-one with students. Many hold degrees in their fields; some are certified teachers or graduate students with specialized expertise.
Yes—safety is our top priority. Tutors complete screening through Simpliverified background checks, consistent with local requirements and platform standards.
Just let Grade Potential know. Your profile can be introduced to a different tutor at no cost to you, and once accepted, you’ll be re-introduced so sessions continue without losing momentum.
Support spans elementary through college across all core subjects (math, reading, writing, science, languages) plus test prep (e.g., SAT/ACT, AP, GRE) and many electives. If it’s taught in school, there’s likely a tutor with relevant experience. Adult learners can also benefit from tutoring services in a wide variety of subjects.
