Full of beautiful parks, a gorgeous lake, and many natural areas to enjoy, Conroe is a unique city in Texas, north of Houston. The population has grown tremendously in the past twenty years, and its not hart to imagine why. Providing its residents with a high quality of life, its tourists with a lot to see, and its businesses with a economically stimulating environment, Conroe is a wonderful place to live.
With somewhat humble beginnings in the lumber industry, Conroe began to grow rapidly as its economy expanded thanks to lumber, and another major regional export, oil. Isaac Conroe was the man that started it all, having settled in the area in the late 1800s. He started a sawmill, and that’s where it all began. With a lot of richness in the area as time went on, locals grew to be quite wealthy, and for a very short period of time, Conroe was home to the most millionaires per capita in the nation. Flash forward to the early 2000s and you’ll see a great influx of new homes being built in Conroe in an effort to attract new residents to the area. As we have seen the population boom in the past twenty years, it obviously worked!
A local favorite, Lake Conroe is just northwest of Conroe proper. Being close to such a popular destination has its perks, and families that live in Conroe enjoy all of the fun water activities and lake amenities that they get to enjoy year round. Tourists and residents alike use Lake Conroe for water-skiing, fishing, boating, and swimming. Especially popular during the summer months, Lake Conroe can get quite busy.
The community of Conroe is family friendly, with so much to see and do for folks of all ages and interests. With a very busy community calendar, there are events going on all the time, from local concerts to art gallery openings. Every first Thursday of the month, Conroe hosts a free concert at Heritage Place. This happens Spring through Fall, and has become a popular tradition for many residents of Conroe.
With four main parks within the city of Conroe, there’s never want for things to do. Kids love going to Candy Cane Park, which features a wooded area and an extensive playground set. When it gets hot and humid in the summer, as is typical for this area in Texas, both children and adults flock to the Conroe Parks and Recreation Center, where a water park helps everyone cool down.
