Chelsea is a historic neighborhood on the west side of Manhattan, New York. Chelsea was originally one large parcel of land owned by Thomas Clarke. Clarke’s large estate was eventually passed down to his descendant Clement Clarke Moore, who envisioned the area as an affluent neighborhood, providing homes to upper class families. As neighborhoods took shape, it quickly turned into a middle-class residential area, which it still is today. Many of the original buildings in Chelsea date back to between 1885 and 1930; which is why Chelsea is considered a Historic District.
The Chelsea Historic District was also home to many prestigious industrial firms; some that date back to the mid 1800’s. This includes firms for places like the Reynolds Metal Company. The Reynolds Metal Company is perhaps best known for Reynolds Wrap, a popular aluminum foil packaging. It was the second largest aluminum company in the U.S. and the third in the world. The Reynolds Metal Company was founded in 1919, by the nephew of R.J. Reynolds, a big name in the tobacco industry. Naturally, the company originally supplied wrappers to cigarette companies, but they sold to candy companies, as well. Today, the Reynolds Metal Company has become the Reynolds Group Holdings, and has expanded quite a bit from its wrapper days.
Another historical building in Chelsea was home to the Otis Elevator Company; an American company that dates back to 1852. Today, the company is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of vertical transportation systems. Mostly producing elevators, moving walkways, and escalators. But, when the company was founded in 1853, it was a pioneer because of its development of the, “safety elevator.” The, “safety elevator,” was invented by Otis in 1852. It was ingenious, because it had a mechanism that locked the elevator car in place, in the event that the hoisting ropes gave out. This revolutionized elevators, and made them a lot safer to ride in. Otis elevators could tutor other businesses on how to take things to the next level.
Otis Elevators has installed their elevators in countless famous buildings such as the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, the original World Trade Center, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, the Winchester Mystery House, the Hotel Del Coronado, Bok Tower Gardens, and the Skylon Tower. If you were going to go up that high in an elevator, you want it to be made by the company that invented the, “safety elevator.” The Otis Elevator Company is still in business today, with its headquarters now located in Farmington, Connecticut. They employ more than sixty-five thousand people, and bring in over twelve billion dollars in revenue each year. For a company founded over one hundred and sixty five years ago, they are doing very well.
Chelsea tutors want every student to reach new heights in their educational carriers. If you have a student who is struggling in school, a Chelsea tutor might be just what you need. Every student deserves the chance to succeed.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
