In 1950, little Burnsville, Minnesota, was comprised of 583 residents. The town’s one-room schoolhouse provided education for eight grades—Burnsville tutors and teachers had their work cut out for them! Just sixty years later, the 2010 U.S. census counted 60,306 residents in Burnsville. Following World War II, a wave of post-war growth had swept the town, and mass housing development occurred. Luckily, city officials had the foresight to carefully plan the town’s footprint, creating features that make Burnsville a special place to live and visit. Here’s a short list of some of its best features:
Ames Center: The city’s performing arts center has two theaters, a 2,000-square-foot art gallery that holds eight exhibits per year, and rooms for rehearsals, meetings, and banquets. The center offers dance and musical acts, comedies, dramas, and cultural events all year long in its location in Nicollet Commons Park.
Nicollet Commons Park: This park is the focal point of the “Heart of the City” downtown area. Built in a town-square style, the park has a 250-seat amphitheater for concerts, a water feature, and green spaces.
Heart of the City: Burnsville’s downtown redevelopment project has created vibrant, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use neighborhoods. The fifty-four-acre area was developed with smart growth in mind beginning in 1955 and now is the site of the Ames Center, Nicollet Commons Park, diverse housing, office space, and retail shops.
Festivals: Each June, the whole town celebrates the I Love Burnsville Week. The event includes an adventure run, group classes, an outdoor movie, skateboarding contests, and mountain bike racing. As if one citywide celebration weren’t enough, the city also hosts a second summer festival, the Burnsville Fire Muster, with concerts, a parade, and fireworks.
Lions Splash Pad: There’s nothing like cooling off with water on a hot day. The 2,000-square-foot Lions Splash Pad inside of Burnsville Lions Playground boasts more than a dozen ways to get sprayed, sprinkled, splashed, and soaked.
Buck Hill: One of three ski areas in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, Buck Hill offers snowboarding, skiing, and tubing trails. The ski area has a 310-foot vertical drop and is lit for night skiing. Buck Hill is where World Cup ski racers Lindsey Vonn and Kristina Koznick learned to ski.
The Garage: This non-profit music club and teen center attracts national and international music acts; it also serves as a facility for recording engineering and live sound production. Named “Best All Ages Venue” in the Twin Cities by City Pages, the Garage has launched many music industry professionals. The facility also serves as an after-school option for Burnsville youth.
Crystal Lake: For boating, fishing, jet-skiing, and swimming, Crystal Lake is the place to be. The twenty-four-acre park has a swimming beach, concessions, picnic areas, and canoe and paddleboard rentals.
In Burnsville, fun is practically waiting outside the front door. It’s not a myth that students who seek tutoring in Burnsville have more time to go outside and enjoy all the city has to offer!

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
