Not far outside Las Vegas, aka “Sin City”, Boulder City is a small city in Nevada with a lot to offer to both residents and tourists alike. Unlike its nearby “sinful” city, Boulder City is known for being one of the very few cities in the entire state of Nevada that bans the popular gambling industry. You won’t find a single casino within Boulder City, and it is for that reason that many families like the idea of living here. With a more family-friendly atmosphere, Boulder City is a lovely place to live.
Anyone who has been to this region of Nevada will know just how harsh the climate is; with desert and stark mountains in the distance, Boulder City is hardly an ideal place to plant a city. So what was the reason for its start here in the south of Nevada? The settlement of Boulder City was established to house workers for the nearby construction of the Hoover Dam. Established back in the early 1930s, Boulder City doesn’t have a very long history, but the history that the town does have, it is proud of. Because of the fact that the town’s foundation was solely based on the need to house these government workers, the town of Boulder City was completely run by the United States government. It is rare for such towns to exist, but you can see the careful government planning of houses and neighborhoods in the precise way that the city is laid out. These days, Boulder City is a different place, but it is interesting to know that this is how the city got its start.
Interestingly enough, the United States government maintained control of Boulder City all the way up until the early 1960s. At this time, Boulder City elected its first mayor, and other forms of progress followed. Because of its close location to Las Vegas, many people like to retire in Boulder City. In fact, Boulder City is considered to be one of the best cities to retire in within the entire United States. The quieter, small-city lifestyle is comfortable for seniors looking for a peaceful place to retire, and yet all of the entertainment and amenities of nearby Las Vegas is only minutes away.
The Clark County School District serves the students of Boulder City, providing high quality public schools to local students. Other private schools and charter schools are also available, providing a diverse set of options to parents looking for the right option for their children. Local students can seek extra after-school help from local Boulder City tutors. These local tutors meet one-on-one with students, helping each student reach their own educational goals.
