Boerne got its start as a settlement initiated by the Texas Hill Country Free Thinker Latin Settlements back in the 1840s, and man of the town’s initial settlers enjoyed intellectual conversations in Latin. A group of highly progressive thinkers, the people of Boerne were known for their heated talks about popular issues of the time, including providing basic human rights to all people.
With many of its residents of German decent, Boerne takes pride in its German heritage. A local singing club, the Boerne Village Band, has been singing together since the 1860s! Boerne is known throughout the state and the country for having strong German traditions such as this.
