This commuter train is constantly being improved, and soon there are hopes to connect St. Cloud and provide service to the surrounding area.

A famous local festival in Big Lake, Spud Fest has been going on since the early 1970s. Celebrating and enjoying all things related to potatoes, you’ll find no better French fries or twice baked potatoes as you will at Spud Fest. What began as a summer event for families throughout the area, Spud Fest has grown tremendously and now hosts a variety of events throughout the year. The original idea being Spud Fest in Big Lake was to help raise money for summer programs for local children. Big Lake is proud of their tight-knit community, and everyone loves being a part of a festival that provides for the city’s youth. With a focus on creating a family-friendly atmosphere, Spud Fest has a wide variety of events during the summer Spud Fest festival. Some of the popular events include the softball tournament, battle of the bands, a fun run, and charitable gambling events. Spud Fest is a great way to get involved in the Big Lake community.

When it comes to education, families in Big Lake appreciate the dedication of their school district to providing a high quality of education, along with many additional community educational resources. One of the perks to living in a small town is the low student to teacher ratio, and the fact that the community cares so much for the proper education of its youth.
