    About Apopka

Recently Apopka was featured in the news due to the incredible good luck of one of its residents Glamorous Cornelius. Ms Cornelius entered the Florida Lottery via a “Scratch-Off” game, and won one of their top “$1,000 A WEEK FOR LIFE” prizes. According to Apopka tutors this means that she will receive annual payments of $52,000 per year for the next twenty years, totaling over one million dollars. The ticket cost just $2, which she purchased from “Publix” in Delray Beach. The store also picks up a bonus commission of $2000 simply for selling the ticket. No doubt they also received the perk of an increase in sales, as more lottery players than ever flooded to the store in hopes that some of Glamorous Cornelius’ good luck would rub off on them, and that they too will be lucky enough to win. The chances of winning though are miniscule; Apopka tutors work it out to be roughly one in five million. As they say though, someone has to win.

The Florida lottery began this game on July 2nd but has been operating various scratch card games and draws for almost thirty years. The lottery has done it’s ‘home-work,’ and according to their website they have contributed over $15 billion towards education in the state of Florida in the last 15 years. Those funds have helped bankroll more than eight hundred statewide school projects and through money raised they have been able to assist with scholarships for three quarters of a million students in Florida through their “Bright Futures Scholarships” program. Incredibly the lottery has not only helped to fund special programs it has also created many millionaires, and continues to lure in players with hopes of winning a life changing amount of money.

Gambling is still illegal in many states within the U.S. and when some states began their local lottery programs it wasn’t immediately met with a thumbs up. A constitutional amendment was made in Florida in the late eighties, which allowed the lottery to be set up. The guidelines were very clear, and specified that funds raised would go primarily into education, and through that benefit all of the residents of Florida. At the time projected amounts were much lower than the billions that have been successfully raised and injected into the education system. In fact records were broken immediately following the lottery launch, such was the popularity amongst the Florida population. The very first scratch card game named “Millionaire” raised almost one hundred million dollars. In just over two weeks after the Lottery launched, the Lottery was able to repay start up costs and start banking money for the school system. It was an immediate success and continues to be a big revenue builder for schools and students across Florida.
