    About Simi Valley

The city of Simi Valley is located in beautiful, sunny Southern California, only a short drive from Los Angeles’s downtown area. Simi Valley is a growing city, and it’s not hard to understand why. With a very low crime rate, high quality of life, and rich local amenities, who wouldn’t want to live here? Named one of the happiest cities in the nation in recent years, Simi Valley has a lot to offer both residents and tourists.

As is true for much of this Southern California region in Ventura County, Simi Valley was inhabited by the Chumash Native Americans before the Spanish explorers arrived to the area in the late 1700s. Local caves in Simi Valley have become modern tourist destinations because of the beautiful pictographs that can be found there, and scientists have dated those cave drawings back to 500 A.D., amazingly enough. With a nod to the Chumash people, the name “Simi” comes from Chumash words that represent the long, stringy clouds that are typical of this area.

Fast forward to modern days, and you’ll find the Santa Susana Field Laboratory located in Simi Valley. Back in the 1940s, the Santa Suana Field Laboratory was used to test rockets, do science experiments relating to nuclear reactors, and other technological development. This laboratory has been closed since the early 2000s, however, and several national companies including Boeing and NASA are currently conducting a large scale cleanup of the area to prevent any disasters related to the radioactive and highly dangerous materials once used there.

Known for being a very conservative city when it comes to politics, Simi Valley stands out among its surrounding primarily liberal cities. With a mostly Republican electorate in Simi Valley, the city is also home to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, which is also where the late president was buried. Simi Valley is known for being one of the most conservative communities in the entire country, and being located within a region like Southern California, it really stands out.

When it comes to education, the Simi Valley Unified School District runs a number of local public schools, from elementary school through high school. There are also a number of local private schools and charter schools available, as well. For any students that require extra help, local Simi Valley tutors are available for hire. These local tutors can help each student individually in a wide range of subjects, helping each student reach their educational goals.
