    About Santa Paula

The small city of Santa Paula is located in Southern California and has a nickname that might have you craving a fresh orange or a tall glace of fresh-squeezed lemonade. The “Citrus Capital of the World” is a beautiful city located in Ventura County, and sees plenty of tourism every year. Known for its plentiful citrus agricultural industry, Santa Paula has a lot to offer both residents and tourists.

Though agriculture (including citrus trees) is a very successful industry in Santa Paula, the city was one of the first cities in California known for being in the petroleum industry. Though it is no longer active, the Union Oil Company Building located in Santa Paula is now home to a museum where visitors can learn more about the oil industry’s early days here in Santa Paula.

Long before Spanish explorers arrived to this region in the late 1700s, the Chumash Native American tribe inhabited what is now Santa Paula. After the Spanish arrived and set up missions throughout this region, rancheros began to be established, as the Spanish were creating incentives for landowners in this region. Cattle ranches and farmland were established and many of these fields are still in operation to this day, though the deeds to the land have changed hands a few times in many cases.

Because of Santa Paula’s rich history in the agriculture industry, the Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula is worth visiting. Within the museum you will find beautiful restorations of historical photos of the area, and you’ll learn a lot more about local farming and ranches in Santa Paula.

Local to Santa Paula, the Los Padres National Forest is a nearby destination for those who enjoy the great outdoors. With many beautiful hiking and biking trails, along with great fishing spots and camping areas, the Los Padres National Forest has a lot to offer. Bring a picnic lunch and you’re sure to have a wonderful adventure for the whole family.

As far as education is concerned, Santa Paula is served by the Santa Paula School District, the Briggs School District, and the Mupu School District. Nine public elementary schools in total, two public middle schools, and two public high schools are available to local Santa Paula students. Several local charter schools and private schools are also available to local students, and one local college is located on the outskirts of Santa Paula. Beyond the schools themselves, Santa Paula provides other resources for students, including local Santa Paula tutors. These local tutors are available to hire for extra one-on-one help in a wide range of subjects.
