    About Oxnard

When it comes to nice places to live in Southern California, you can’t get much better than Oxnard. This medium-sized city is located only about an hour west of Los Angeles, depending on traffic, of course, and its location makes it perfect for commuters to other nearby cities as well. Known for being one of the most affluent communities in the entire United States, Oxnard boasts a high quality of life, and its no surprise that pretty much everyone who lives here loves all of its rich amenities.

Part of what makes Oxnard so great is that it is so easily accessible. Known for being a major transportation hub within Southern California, you can get to Oxnard in many different ways, including Amtrak, various large highways, other trains, busses, and trams, as well as a local airport. You’ll find that Oxnard is also located next to a lot of agricultural land, where lima beans and strawberries are grown among other crops.

This history of Oxnard is an interesting one, and like many surrounding areas in Southern California, Native Americans inhabited Oxnard long before the European settlers arrived. The specific tribe that lived on this land was the Chumash Native Americans. The Portuguese landed here back in the 1500s and declared the land for Spain. By the time the late 1700s came around, Mission San Buenaventura was established in what is now Oxnard. In the 19th century, the area became popular for rancheros and farmland. The man who Oxnard was eventually named for, Henry T. Oxnard, came here in the late 1800s and started a sugar beet processing plant. Once the railroads arrived to the area, the population of Oxnard began to grow, and more families moved to Oxnard.

Oxnard is known for having nearly two dozen miles of coastline, including several beautiful public beaches that are never super crowded. Families that live in Oxnard love the fact that they have such easy access to the beach. Also due to the fact that Oxnard enjoys a Mediterranean climate, the weather is always pretty moderate; summers and winters are mild, and residents love the fact that you can practically wear shorts year round.

When it comes to education, Oxnard is served by several local school districts. With over fifty public schools throughout the city, parents enjoy having many options when it comes to their children’s education. For students that may require a little extra help in their studies, local tutors are available for help in a wide variety of subjects. These tutors can meet with each student individually to help each student reach their educational goals.
