A small city amidst the very large, busy Los Angeles County, Duarte is a unique community with a rich history and happy people. Directly to the north of Duarte you will find the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains, as Duarte is located within the San Gabriel Valley region. With these gorgeous mountains as a backdrop, Duarte boasts a very unique kind of scenic beauty. The suburban feel of the neighborhoods provides a distinct contrast to the stark mountain range that looms in the distance. Duarte has a lot to offer both residents and tourists to the area.
Duarte is home to some interesting American history, as it is located along historic Route 66. You may have heard of this famous road from the song that says “Get your kicks on Route 66”, or perhaps you’ve traveled the famous route before. Its history is more than just a pop song from the 1960s, however, as this road is known for being a major route for traveling west in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Many families migrated west during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl which was ravaging much of the Southern and Midwestern United States. It was a popular road for a long time until new, more efficient highway systems were designed and constructed, and in the 1980s it was removed from the official highway system and is now considered to be a tourist destination instead.
Looking back even further in Duarte’s history you will find that the original inhabitants of this region were the Tongva Native American people. They lived on this land for thousands of years, even before the Spanish explorers arrived to California. Even though the fertile soil was an attractive feature of the San Gabriel Valley, the Tongva people preferred to live off of the wild, natural vegetation of the region. Because of the big, wild oak trees that grow so easily in this area, a portion of the Tongva diet was made from acorns. The Tongva also feasted on local berries and other local foods that naturally grew in this area.
Today, families find Duarte to be a great place to live. Being close to Los Angeles provides residents of Duarte with a lot of opportunities, including access to more jobs in a wide variety of industries, all within an easy commute. For residents of school-age, the Duarte Unified School District provides a number of local public schools, from elementary school through high school. Several private schools and charter schools are also available to Duarte school kids, providing parents with good options when it comes to choosing what is right for their children. Should a student need some extra after-school help, local Duarte tutors are available for hire. These tutors can meet one-on-one with each student, helping them reach their personal educational goals.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
In-person at home or another convenient, quiet, safe location (like the local library). When families need flexibility, online sessions are also available.
Experienced, professional independent tutors with strong subject knowledge and a track record of working one-on-one with students. Many hold degrees in their fields; some are certified teachers or graduate students with specialized expertise.
Yes—safety is our top priority. Tutors complete screening through Simpliverified background checks, consistent with local requirements and platform standards.
Just let Grade Potential know. Your profile can be introduced to a different tutor at no cost to you, and once accepted, you’ll be re-introduced so sessions continue without losing momentum.
Support spans elementary through college across all core subjects (math, reading, writing, science, languages) plus test prep (e.g., SAT/ACT, AP, GRE) and many electives. If it’s taught in school, there’s likely a tutor with relevant experience. Adult learners can also benefit from tutoring services in a wide variety of subjects.
Most families choose 60-90 minute sessions 1-2 times per week. Cadence and length are set directly with the tutor to fit the student’s goals, pace, and schedule.
